Barbie Ferreira. Recognize the name? You should. The 19-year-old plus-size model took the internet by storm earlier this year with her unretouched photos for Aerie’s #aeriereal campaign.
Since then, Ferreira has signed with international modeling agency Wilhelmina and has gained over 358,000 followers on Instagram.
But even a star like Ferreira, who's representing curvy women and Latinas out there, hasn't been exempt from receiving shade for her figure.
Recently, the model received comments on Instagram from body-shaming trolls who believe women who aren’t a size 2 “eat Taco Bell” all the time.
In the latest episode of Body Party – a video series for Teen Vogue – Ferreira got together with her mother (who happens to be a chef) to cook up a traditional Brazilian meal and shut down the haters.
Although there is a huge misconception that plus-sized models can eat whatever they want, Ferreira (and her mom) assured everyone that this belief is far from the truth.
Ferreira's mother explained that her daughter "grew up in a household without cookies – no junk food at all. It’s just very healthy food."
Sorry to break it to you people, but just because someone has curves doesn't mean they are unhealthy.
And unlike the US, in Brazil it is a very cultural thing to accept women with curves.
It’s a shame that such an influential country like America is not celebrating women of all sizes.
"Concentrate on being healthy and happy," Ferreira's mom said. "It doesn’t matter how you look."
You go, mom!
The model's mother isn't just her No. 1 fan — she's also been Ferreira's motivation through everything.
Throughout her darkest moments dealing with her insecurities, her mother was always there to push her along. Aww!
