Cardi B Spoke Against Racism On Instagram, But James Charles Made It All About Himself

Every week, thousands of fans tune into Cardi B's Instagram Lives, waiting to hear what she has to say about current events, life as a mom, Hollywood's drama, or her upcoming projects. The outspoken hip-hop star holds nothing back in the unfiltered social media discussions, blasting politicians for their bad behavior, sending out calls to action, and ultimately using her platform to empower people to get out and take action. So when she did just that last night, we gathered around yet again to listen to Cardi say exactly what was on her mind.

However, James Charles clearly wasn't interested in what she had to say and instead asked Cardi to respond to his DM in the most insensitive way possible. What gives?

Cardi B's unapologetic behavior includes fearlessly speaking about politics.

From encouraging fans to get out and vote, speaking candidly about a woman's right to choose, and blasting politicians and the government for systemic racism, Cardi B has become a voice for the people in her own right. Her massive influence has spanned far and wide, with fans everywhere calling for her to get involved more in politics or even run for office.

So last night, when she took to Instagram Live once again to speak out against racism and police brutality, of course we continued to stan.

And with thousands of comments praising Cardi appearing across the screen as she spoke, one message in particular caught an observant fan's eyes.

In a screenshot posted to Reddit, it appears that beauty YouTuber James Charles had something to say during Cardi's discussion. However, it wasn't in support of her message about racism and the plight of black people. Instead, he urged her to check her DMs for what we assume is a potential collab opportunity.

"Sis check your messages ASAP please," he wrote.

The inappropriate comment certainly rubbed people the wrong way.

"Oh my god, time and place!" a disgusted person wrote in the aforementioned Reddit thread. "Honestly I think James doesn’t give a hoot about how he comes off as long as people talk about him. That’s why I think he purposely riles up the drama channels."

And unless the DM pertains to advocacy or what he can do to be a better ally, then the comment was completely unacceptable at that time and place.

"Unless he’s messaging her because he has the secret solution to both these problems and wants to let her in on the ground floor, he needs to shut the [redacted] up," an angry Cardi fan said

"This. At the time of the screenshot, Cardi was speaking very openly and passionately about the abuse and discrimination that people of colour face in the justice system and he's sneaking in the DMs for a collab? Please," someone responded.

But... are we really surprised?

"Tbh I don’t want to sound overly mean (plus I may not be right) but I think the only people that actually really like him still are his long-term fans — presumably young teenagers. Think most who was sort of on the fence about him/slightly older than 16 now think he’s rightly a moron. He seems to get clowned on a lot. I’m still waiting on him to be ‘cancelled’ for his disability jokes but seems like he’s gotten away with it," someone said, noting Charles' many other mishaps in the past year.

Looks like even through all his many bouts with drama, he still hasn't learned.

"He learns nothing. Not after any of his mini scandals, not after the drama with Tati. James needs to grow up and be more mindful of the people he interacts with, whether they are fellow influencers, people in the beauty industry, fans, or celebrities," someone said boldly.

"I know I’m being harsh but James only cares about himself. Look at how he treated Marlena. This kid has learned nothing about respect since the beginning of his career. It’s not hard to be respectful towards others. It’s time to GROW UP."

What was so important that he needed to infiltrate her Live comments?

We're not sure, but considering the pair met each other for the first time last month, Charles is more than likely hoping to get Cardi on his YouTube Channel.

"I met James Charles yesterday. He so pretty like in REAL LIFE," she tweeted about the encounter.

Don't do it, Cardi. Don't do it.
