Bowl Cuts Are Back Thanks To Charlize Theron And Harry Styles

It's official: Bowl haircuts are back with a vengeance. Charlize Theron, Timothée Chalamet, and Harry Styles are keeping the dream of the ’90s alive with their hairstyles, reminding us of our bad-boy skater crushes in high school. While the bowl cut may have been reviled in its heyday (seriously, what kid willingly asked for that style?), it's taken on a new, modern approach that feels very 2020s. After all, JNCO jeans are back, and now we've got the hair to go with it!

Chalamet's hair comes courtesy of his new role.

Actors do a lot of crazy things for their craft, including mind-blowing hair transformations (more on that below). Chalamet got his sk8ter boi 'do for his role in The King, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. In the David Michôd-directed film, Chalamet plays the once and future Henry V.

Harry Styles joined the trend for entirely unknown reasons.

Styles debuted his bowl cut to very mixed reactions. In a candid photo with a fan, Styles is seen without his signature rocker locks, and with a bowl cut that looks like fellow One Directioner Louis Tomlinson. Or, more accurately, Leonardo DiCaprio in Marvin's Room (1996).

Styles fans are apoplectic about his new bowl cut.

On social media, fans erupted into the stages of mourning about his new bowl cut. Look at these grief-stricken tweets:

Meanwhile, Charlize Theron looks A M A Z I N G in her bowl cut.

Is there any hairstyle that Theron can't pull off? She's currently filming the ninth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, and her character Cipher is sporting the new 90s 'do. Theron's impeccable bowl cut comes with intricate highlights and lowlights — it's truly a work of art.

Celine Dion, ever the trendsetter, also rocked the bowl cut in the August 2019 issue of Harper's Bazaar.

Dion covered the August 2019 issues of Harper's Bazaar, and excuse me? How amazing does Dion look? Her razored bowl cut looks perfect with her angular cutout jacket. Those lapels mean business. Aside from Dion's powerful pipes, she's truly a style icon if there ever was one. Consider my neck fully stepped on.

Charlie Heaton is a noted fan of the bowl cut.

Stranger Things season 3 may take place in 1985, but Charlie Heaton, who plays Jonathan Byers, is firmly in the mid-’90s. Heaton's bowl cut isn't quite as dramatic as, say, Devon Sawa, but he's dedicated to his heartthrob haircut.

So it's a trend, right? Right?

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like bowl cuts aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Are you ready for the newest throwback hair trend? Get used to it, because when celebs do something, it's only a matter of time before it filters down to the common people. Sometimes trends die out for a reason, but with the bowl cut getting a new life in the 2020s, it remains to be seen which ’90s fads are roaring back into our lives. Please, let chunky highlights stay in 1998 where they belong!
