I love a real Christmas tree. Nothing says Christmas like the smell of pine in your home. And while the look of fake trees has improved over the years, there’s just something magical about the real thing. Still, for all of that goodness, I can’t deny that there is real work that goes into hoisting, decorating, and even disposing of a real tree.
Things can even get a bit dangerous if you’re not careful. One dad learned that firsthand this holiday season, when he and his family brought home a huge Christmas tree.
The father started unwrapping the tree from the top instead of the bottom.
TikToker @nmusso001 posted a short video of a man, presumably a father, unwrapping the Christmas tree for the family home.
His mistake was cutting from the top first instead of working his way up from the bottom.
As he does so, his son offers commentary, “It’s not even getting fatter.” But he spoke too soon.
When he cut a string lower on the tree, the whole thing sprang forward, knocking him to the ground.
As the father cuts one of the last ties on the bottom, the tree bursts from its restraints, knocking the father to the ground, scissors still in hand.
The boy, who was once skeptical about the tree’s width shouts, “Oooh!”
The TikToker burst out laughing at the sight of the man writhing on the floor. The video abruptly ends there.
Maybe this was Mother Nature's revenge.
We’ll assume that because the video made it to social media that this man didn’t sustain any permanent injuries.
Perhaps the tree was taking revenge for being cut down in its prime. Whatever the reason, the internet has found the whole thing hilarious. The video has been viewed over 24 million times and has 4 million likes.
The video brought some holiday cheer to the people of TikTok.
In the comments, people are adding to the hilarity.
“Oh you want Christmas tree? I’ll give you Christmas tree,” one user wrote personifying the tree.
Another saw some similarities in the tree’s rapid expansion. “Exactly what happens after taking off shapewear,” another user wrote.
Even Santa found it funny. The official TikTok for Santa Claus commented on the video. “Wow! ♥️ . ”
We love a little holiday cheer. Even if it had to come at this poor man’s expense!
