Prom gowns are a bigger deal today than ever before. From sheer fabric to glitter to trains that would put some wedding gowns to shame, these teens are slaying in more luxurious and creative looks than ever. Of course, the downside is that the bar higher than ever, which can mean high schoolers feel pressured to spend hundreds, if not thousands, on a dream gown.
Thankfully, as we've seen with several DIY-ers, it's possible to create custom gowns without dipping into college savings. Alabama teen Nazmayde Castillo (aka @Nazmayde) took over Instagram with her magnificent Fashion Nova cocktail dress she tweaked for prom.
Made from a $50 Fashion Nova cocktail dress, 18-year-old Castillo wanted flowers added to the hemline to elevate the dress for prom night.
Castillo's boyfriend MJ Johnson (aka @the.officialmj) found the dress, while her aunt added the blue flowers to the bottom, Castillo told Revelist, "She turned my idea into my dream dress for prom… I fell in love with it even more the second I tried it on!" Teamwork makes the dream work, after all!
Instabrand Fashion Nova has been worn by basically every major celebrity, from the Kardashian-Jenners to Cardi B. It's very cool to see someone take a fast-fashion brand and reinvent the look for a formal event. Maybe Fashion Nova could drop a prom line?
