We're all too familiar with the feeling: Running on two hours of sleep, waking up with bags under our eyes that our everyday concealer just can't fix. Huda Beauty is trying to change that.
After months of waiting, fans finally have a release date for the long-anticipated Overachiever Concealer, but not everybody is as thrilled as they thought they'd be.
Will it be everything it's cracked up to be? You decide.
In June, beauty extraordinaire Huda Kattan teased her second-ever complexion product, a concealer.
In a teaser for her Facebook watch series Huda Boss, Kattan said, "We’ve been working so hard on this concealer. It’s super high-quality, super luxurious." Nothing else was said about the concealers until late August when Kattan posted herself applying the foundation on Snapchat.
After a not-so-succesful first complexion release, you can imagine the skepticism that came with the announcement of Kattan's Overachiever Concealer.
After beauty blogger Nyma Tang swatched Huda Beauty's Faux Filter foundations, it became clear Kattan may have misrepresented the shade range of her foundations.
Though the models used to advertise the foundations had complexions similar to Tang's, the darkest shades of the foundation did not work for her skin tone at all.
Jackie Aina, who is never afraid to speak her mind about the diversity and inclusion in beauty, also added her two cents.
"The Huda Beauty Faux Filter foundation just launched a couple weeks ago, and everyone’s raving about it," she said while reviewing the product. "I have no doubts that this is probably a really phenomenal product. I like Huda. I think she’s really nice and I think [her sister] Mona’s nice, too."
However, though Aina likes Kataan as a person, she stated that she has "a hard time distinguishing when someone really truly does celebrate diversity and when they are pandering."
She criticized the lack of representation for darker skinned women on her Instagram page.
"That’s amazing — but are you going to put these women on your Instagram page, though? The women that are darker than tan? The women that are darker than Beyonce?”
Huda Beauty's diversity on Instagram hasn't changed much, if we're being completely honest.
But anyway, after months of waiting, Kattan revealed the release date of her Overachiever Concealer, October 8.
What can we expect from the second Huda Beauty complexion product?
First of all, it's THICK, hunny. If you're looking for coverage, you got it.
It's also packed with hella skincare actives like Persian silk tree, Jericho rose extract, green tea, and caffeine.
Now you don't have to feel so bad about those nights when you accidentally sleep in your makeup, though we don't advise doing that.
Available in 20 shades, the concealers appear to be pretty inclusive... at face value.
However, we saw how that went last time.
But the real kicker is the range's price tag.
At $30 a tube, a lot of Huda Beauty fans think Overachiever is running steep.
As a woman of color (and a Huda Beauty eyeshadow palette stan), I must say that I'm rooting for this concealer. But Huda, it's still rather suspicious there's only one deep-skinned person wearing this product on your Instagram page.
