I Secretly Fattened Up My Bridesmaids so They Wouldn’t Look Better Than Me at My Wedding

When a woman gets married, she likely wants all eyes on her. It's her day to be the "it girl" in a beautiful white gown with all the perfect details. We have all heard of a bridezilla or two who has taken things too far when ensuring she has the wedding of her dreams for this very reason.

One bride actually confessed to Body + Soul that she took things to the extreme to make sure that she was the center of attention on her wedding day instead of her "gorgeous" sisters. Known only as Penny, she claimed she made the women special smoothies that didn't give them glowing skin or silky hair. Nope, these smoothies were loaded with calories that made her sisters pack on the pounds.

The bride said she felt like she was living in the Brady house.

Penny said she was definitely Jan compared to her sisters Maggie and Charlie. She claims the women are gorgeous, and she is just plain Penny in the middle. Still, she found the man of her dreams, Richie, and couldn't wait to marry him and spend the rest of their lives together. After meeting with the photographer, she started planning the wedding and began to have some concerns.

"I started to think about what my wedding photos were going to look like. Well, probably the more correct statement would be that I started to obsess over them. These are going to be on display in my home forever – I don't want to be reminded until my last day on earth that I was the plain sister," she wrote.

Not wanting to be outshined, Penny devised a bit of a sinister plan.

The sisters and Richie live together, so they all meet in the morning for breakfast. She started to make Maggie and Charlie smoothies in the months leading up to the wedding. She convinced them they were healthy, slimming smoothies, but that wasn't really the case.

"I even went as far as buying a weight loss shake and emptying the contents, filling it instead with a mega-weight gain protein powder I found in a body building shop. At first I went easy but by the month before the wedding I was adding triple the prescribed amount into Maggie and Charlie's smoothie, leaving my own simply as fruit and coconut water," she explained.

She didn't just want them fat. She wanted them ugly, too.

Penny said the three sisters were blonde and fair, so she picked neon yellow dresses "that made them look washed out and slightly ill." She lied and said that she wanted something fun and bright, but deep down, she knew that the less attractive they were, the better she'd look.

"I've been planning my wedding since I knew what a bride was, and I knew I would get a little bridezilla-ish but this wedding-focused atmosphere may have sent me into the stratosphere. I started obsessing about every tiny detail and it was pretty much all I spoke about," she admitted.

Her plan worked.

On the day of her wedding, her sisters were visibly plumper. The women even had to have their dresses taken out to accommodate their fuller figures. But Penny was delighted.

"The day went off without a hitch and everyone had a great time. I never thought for a moment on my wedding day that I wasn't the centre of attention or the most important person in the room," she wrote.

After getting her wedding album, she did feel a bit of remorse.

Penny explained that she often looks at her pictures, and when she compares herself to her sisters, she feels more attractive and is satisfied. Though she feels a twinge of guilt, both Maggie and Charlie have lost the weight, so Penny doesn't think it is a big deal.

"Sometimes they ask me to make those delicious smoothies I used to make, but I tell them the weight-loss shake has been discontinued. I make them toast instead," she said.
