If you live for beauty YouTuber drama, then May has been your month. For the past few weeks, we haven't been able to escape the mess that is the James Charles saga. And just when every party involved agreed to bring an end to the feud, Charles has dropped yet another bomb on beauty lovers everywhere.
This time, however, he has a different kind of announcement that's left sisters heartbroken. His upcoming Sisters Tour is no more, and the reason isn't as black and white as you'd expect. However, there is some good news.
Last week, James Charles alerted Twitter of an update regarding his highly anticipated Sisters Tour.
"Update on the Sisters Tour is now on my instagram story," he told his followers. Many expected that he would be adding tour dates to the nearly sold-out event.
But that wasn't the case.
Instead, much to the dismay of fans everywhere, he announced that the tour would be canceled. "I made the decision to pull the tour, this is 100% my decision. None of the venues pulled out, none of the brands that were going to be sponsoring it pulled out. It was almost completely sold out and still less than 1% of people who bought tickets reached out about refunds," Charles said.Ā
Instead, he said that after the firestorm of drama, he would be taking a step back to focus on his mental health and to regroup.
While all refunds will be made with fees included, there are other expenses that Charles will have to pay back.
"Thatās like… a lot of money lost right? Heād have to still pay his staff, security, etc. while also refunding everyone. I doubt that itās secretly due to bad sales or anything, his fan base is still strong. Tbh after that insane s***storm he went through, I wouldnāt want to go on a world tour and meeting thousands of people either," said someone on Reddit.
Others are supportive of Charles' decision to focus on himself.
"Probably for the best tbh, I know his young fans will be bummed but imo it shows that heās willing to turn down a fat paycheck in order to do what he said he would do: recalibrate and humble himself. Idk how many people were employed on his tour (or what they do…or what even happens during a JC tour) but hopefully they donāt get totally f***** over by this.
AND if anyone bought that super expensive ticket, then this is the universe giving them a second chance to put that money in their college fund or something lmao. A true gift," another said.
But some think that Charles may not be telling the truth about the ticket sales numbers.
"Someone posted on here not too long ago – i think in one of the megathreads – that out of curiosity they checked the date in their hometown because they thought the venue he'd booked seemed quite large and over half the seats were still available so at the very least, i don't believe that the tour was sold out either," someone said about an abundance of empty seats at one venue.
And others even think sponsors have pulled out.
"I think it was on his best interest to cancel it. Do i believe that it was his desicion entirely? No, i think some sponsors dropped him," someone noted.
Fans on Twitter were overwhelmingly supportive.
"I am so very proud of @jamescharles. He cancelled his tour because he is acknowledging that he doesnāt want to let his fans down who did buy tickets. He wants to give them their moneys worth. He is also paying refund fees out of pocket! Love you sister & thank you," a sister said.
And venues have already begun sending cancellation emails.
The Fox Theatre is sending all patrons their money back within the week. "Soooo i just received this email regarding the sisters tour… :/ iāll hug sister james one day," a discouraged fan said.
The cancellation is heartbreaking for many.
"Iāve been balling for the past hour I seriously canāt. I completely understand that youāre not ready but the fact that I actually could have met you again and everythingās ruined is so so sad and devastating to me I really donāt wanna overreact but this tour was…," she said woefully.
And regardless of your feelings toward Charles, this is a sad day for a lot of Sisters out there.
"If you bought tickets to the sisters tour you will receive your refund within the next 7-10 business days. Word is that James is paying whatever 'restocking fee' the venue might charge.
Dude, we love to have a laugh @jamescharles expense, not gonna lie…but this is sister sad," someone said.
