We tried the unicorn highlight filter that’s taking over Instagram

If you've spent any time on Instagram lately, chances are you've seen videos like this floating around:

It turns out that outrageous sparkle isn't created by a product, but an app.

The app is called Kirakira+, and is available in the Apple and Google Play stores for $0.99. And it is a dollar that will change your LIFE.

The app is a video camera that adds sparkle to literally EVERYTHING. It's a real life glittery unicorn filter.

This blurry screengrab shows you the (very light) way the camera works: Press the button at the bottom to record a video, and control the amount of sparkle with the slider in the top right corner. You can change the sparkle effects — don't worry, we'll get to those — by swiping to the left and right.

This app transformed my life. Behold my sparkly magnificence AND DESPAIR.

Even my blinking eye pins were shining like the top of the Chrysler building.

And my nail art was taken to another level of perfection.

You can learn how I did this insanely easy nail art lewk here.

Revelist's editor-in-chief, April, was SHOOKETH TO THE CORE by this app, and immediately smeared glitter all over her hand to test the effects.

April even put some loose craft glitter in her hair — and was immediately transformed into a magical fairy queen.

THIS APP IS ACTUAL MAGIC. Watch it transform yours truly patting craft glitter onto her lipstick into a glimmery mermaid dream.

I was so impressed by the unicorn-like properties of this app, I HAD to make my co-workers try it out. Here's Nicole, admiring how her glasses twinkle in the sun.

Here's Becca, who was amazed at how insane her shiny necklace looked.

Here's Jess, allowing the sunlight to gleam like a million freaking diamonds off her sequined dress.

Here's Nicola, who let me smear glitter all over her cheekbones so that we could admire the ~shine~

LOOK AT THIS EFFECT.

I CANNOT.

(We even tried it on our mini disco ball, and it made it 75% more awesome.

If this was the only effect the Kirakira+ app offered, it would be enough — because this right here could transform your entire selfie game.

But it turns out the app had even more magic to bestow upon us.

There are FIVE OTHER glitter effects in the app, including Color.

April said that I looked like someone from "X-Men" with this filter, and I do not disagree.

The donut glaze filter of Airly...

The OUTRAGEOUS dark sparkle of Glare...

And the rainbow shine of Twinkle.

(There's another effect called Shine, but it's FUCKING HORRIBLE on the human face, so you don't get to see that one.)

So if you want to sparkle like a real-life unicorn, KiraKira+ is the app for you.

The only thing not included is the horn.
