I've had a long love affair with MAC Cosmetics Satin lipsticks. The Satin shade Myth was the first MAC product I ever bought, and my collection has grown exponentially since then. MAC lipsticks were that thing I could always count on to be consistent: They've stuck with me through breakups, bad friendships, and basically all major life changes. My loyalty to MAC Satin is real, and I've had no intention of straying.
So when I found out my beloved brand would be releasing a new formula called Powder Kiss, I didn't know how to feel. On one hand, I was pretty excited, but on the other hand, I felt like I'd be cheating on the love of my life if I gave it a try.
But of course, curiosity killed the cat, I gave in, and now I don't think I can ever go back. MAC Satin lipstick, I'll love you forever, but mama has a new favorite.
What exactly is the Powder Kiss formula, you ask? I had to do a little research before I cheated on my first love, MAC's Satin formula.
MAC describes the new lipstick line as follows:
"Matte, totally reinvented. Delivering a romantic blur of soft-focus color, this weightless moisture-matte lipstick was developed to replicate a backstage technique: blending out edges of matte lipstick for a hazy effect. Its groundbreaking formula contains moisture-coated powder pigments that condition and hydrate lips. The result is the zero-shine look of a matte lipstick with the cushiony, lightweight feel of a balm."
I opted to try three of the new Powder Kiss lipsticks in three staple shades: one red, one pink, and one nude.
The first shade I tried was Sultriness, $19.
One thing every makeup lover needs is a flushed nude lipstick shade. With no liner at all, I smacked this on my lips and was on my way.
The baby pink complemented the yellow undertones of my skin without washing me out like a lot of similar shades do.
Because there is nothing worse than a lipstick that makes you look sick IRL.
Next up was Fall In Love, $19.
I got so many compliments wearing this color. The fuchsia shade is reminiscent of one of my old-school favorites, Candy Yum-Yum.
Whether it's day or night, this lipstick is the perfect transition shade.
The name is oh so appropriate, because I definitely fell in love.
I was feeling myself with this shade, clearly.
The final Powder Kiss shade I tried was Shocking Revelation, $19.
MAC never fails to produce amazing red shades. It's one of my favorite colors to wear, but finding the best one for you can be such a drag — to be honest, I didn't think I could ever love another as much as I love Stunna by Fenty Beauty.
But this red is different. With deeper undertones, this sexy nighttime red is the perfect date-night shade.
Fellas, I'm single in case you wanted to give me an excuse to wear this one. Italian food is my favorite. I'll be awaiting your call.
As far as formula goes, these lipsticks go on so buttery smooth like the original MAC Satin lipsticks and have a matte finish.
I was incredibly hesitant about this matte formula. Matte lipstick in general is a little played out now, and I'm sick of having dry lips all the time. But Powder Kiss has so much moisture that it didn't feel matte at all.
And that's an extremely good thing.
MAC, you have a winner with this one.
This is why I'll love you forever.
