Madewell Expanded Their Entire Line To Include Sizes 000 — 24

Size inclusivity is a crucial issue in fashion — and it seems that brands are finally waking up to that reality.

Madewell has officially boarded the inclusivity train by expanding the sizing of their main clothing line to include sizes from 000 (denim size 23) through 24 (denim size 37). Though this isn't the first time the sister brand of J.Crew has made efforts to become more inclusive, it's definitely the most comprehensive — an estimated 40% of the line now goes up to a size 3X.

According to a Madewell press release, they worked with third party fit experts to get the sizing right — according to industry standards — across all styles.

"This is part of our larger initiative to reinvent the standard of fit to reflect the real, diverse spectrum of the American Customer," the brand wrote.

Here's the size chart for their tops, dresses, sweaters, and jackets.

Based on this chart, a size 24 is equivalent to a 53.5" bust and a 45.5" natural waist. Dependable plus-size brands have similar measurements for their size 24. At Universal Standard, a size 24 is equivalent to a 52.5" bust and a 46" waist. At Eloquii, a size 24 is equivalent to a 53" bust and a 47" natural waist.

And here is the size chart for Madewell's beloved denim.

As you can see, a size 24 is equivalent to a US size 37, with a natural waist of 45.5" and 55.5" hip. At Universal Standard, a size 24 has a 46" waist and a 55.5" hip. At Eloquii, a size 24 has a 47" natural waist and a 57" hip.

It seems that the brand has truly done their research, and have taken meaningful steps towards size inclusion. That should be celebrated!

It's an active change that shows the brand is finally doing their part to include women of all shapes and sizes. Good job, Madewell.

As of July 31, 40 percent of Madewell's items are available online in the new sizes. But they're working on extending sizing on all styles in the future.

You can try on the new extended denim sizes in stores, but you'll still have to buy the items online (but you can order in store with free shipping).
