The beauty YouTuber community never has a shortage of drama. Whether it's old tweets that have been dug up, public Twitter arguments, or those hour-long apology videos, the mess is ever-present and isn't showing signs of slowing down anytime soon. Well, adding to the never-ending firestorm is Manny MUA, aka Manny Gutierrez, who after a very rough 2018 is finally speaking out about Dramageddon.
Check out the 30-plus minutes of cancellation talk ahead.
It's been a rough year for Manny MUA.
In case you missed the mess, here's a little background: Last year, there appeared to be an obvious dissolve in the controversial friendship between Gutierrez, Jeffree Star, Laura Lee, Gabriel Zamora, and Nikita Dragun. And while the reason for the divide was unclear, a now-deleted tweet from Gutierrez appeared to imply that the four were happier without Star. Gutierrez then went on to accuse Star of being a racist.
But it all backfired.
Insensitive past posts from the other four friends suddenly came to light, including a Snapchat post from Gutierrez criticizing an Uber driver for not speaking English. Of course, Laura Lee took the biggest hit, with fans disgusted at her use of the N-word in past tweets, but Gutierrez also caught major backlash, losing 250,000 followers.
Well, now he's finally addressing it.
"Hey guys! I hope you all watch todays video with an open mind and an open heart! Thank you all for being the BEST followers anyone could ever ask for, you are truly incredible and thank you for allowing me to grow and learn and be the best person I can be for not only you but for myself and for my family! I love you guys!" Gutierrez captioned the long-awaited video.
And some people forgot he was even canceled amidst the other massive drama of the beauty community.
"Tbh what with the amount of drama in the beauty community this year, I've kind of forgotten why he was 'cancelled' in the first place. Was it just for trying to social climb, because that kind of seems like small fry compared to some of the absolute [redacted] that's gone down recently," someone wrote about the video in a Reddit thread.
Gutierrez credited his parents with digging him out of a depression.
He said that his mother and father even offered to return back to work to support him while he gathered himself mentally and emotionally. "I’m glad his parents took the pressure off and said they would be fine going back to their old jobs if he chose not to go back to social media, and help take care of him for a while. 'My social blade may be in the red, but my life is green' is sure a mood!" a Gutierrez fan noted on Reddit.
But he's not completely in the clear.
Last week, Gutierrez found himself at the center of drama again after being accused by beauty influencer Chelsie Worthy of stealing her editing style, an allegation that came with some seriously compelling receipts, leading many to give him some serious side-eye.
Star has seemed to respond on Twitter.
"Don't let people use your past to invalidate your current mindset. Hi growth, how are ya?" he wrote from his personal Twitter page.
Even Thomas Beauty put in his two cents.
"Let me be clear on this. Where it was true that I was held accountable for my actions, on and offline the influx of hate was NOT something I could handle. There WAS bullying that took place. My looks, my success, my weight, my existence all was put to question. It broke me…," he said about his own experience being canceled.
But overall, it seems Gutierrez is in a much better place.
And fans are wishing him well. "Manny’s been doing really well, tbh. Staying out of drama, uploading content that has surprisingly actually helped me out, being calmer and a bit more collected in his videos, and most importantly, not complaining about the hardships of being an influencer. While I don’t like his choice in some of his friends, I think he’s in a relatively good place and I wish him well," one of them said.
