Maybelline's new eyebrow pencil is banking on the current microbladed eyebrow trend — and the drugstore brand has actually knocked it out of the park.
YouTube beauty star Tina Yong tried out the just-launched Tattoo Brow Ink Pen ($17.90). Though it took a couple tries to get the hang of the innovative tri-point tip, she was impressed with how closely the pencil mimicked real microbladed brows, which are carved on with a tiny blade and semi-permanent ink.
Let's take an up-close look at the product in action…
UPDATE: We reached out to Maybelline and at this time the Tattoo Ink Brow Pen is only being sold in Asian markets 🙁 *However* beauty e-tailer Hush has already made a dupe for a mere $7
Maybelline describes the tip as a "micro fork" that creates hair-like strokes to last all day. (More on the actual long lastingness later.)
The pencil is ideal for filling in the front of the brow, but it also works on the tail just as well as a single tip pencil, as Yong demonstrates.
First she tried with her hand tilted upward, which made the most sense for the micro fork but felt super awkward compared to her normal posture.
Although this felt strange, the hairs drew on the same as they did when she took her regular posture, coming up in the next GIF.
When she tilted her hand down, she was pleased to get virtually the same results.

In case you're wondering how the micro fork works on brow tails, the answer is: Pretty great!
Overall, Tina was impressed with the Tattoo Brow Ink Pen, save for two things.
1.) There are only three shades and the darkest one, grey brown, wouldn't work on hairs darker than her own.
2.) The drawn-on hairs definitely don't last all day.
