This year is shaping up to be a fantastic year for Pokémon fans. The new Pokémon: Sword and Shield versions are coming to the Nintendo Switch this holiday season — and so is Japanese beauty brand Shu Uemura's Pokémon-themed makeup collection. Seriously, the collection is adorable, and includes lipsticks, two eye shadow palettes, makeup brushes, and special Pokémon-themed packaging of their famed skin-care products. Shu Uemura is known for its sleek, minimal packaging, and the brand is firmly marketed toward an older crowd (as opposed to, say, the annual Too Faced Holiday Gingerbread collection). The brand doesn't shy away from any age group — they have models with facial piercings and tattoos on its Instagram page — but they certainly approach makeup from a more timeless perspective.
Given their elegant aesthetic, it's such a treat that Shu Uemura is branching into this fun, nostalgia-driven Pokémon collection. Who among us didn't play the Pokémon video games in middle and high school? The golden color of the packaging reminds me of those summer days, trading Pokémon playing cards with friends at the park. It's designed to appeal to Pikachu fans both young and old!
As for collection specifics, the Shu Uemura Pokémon collection is beautifully subtle.
Although the collection is themed after cartoon monsters with magic powers, the pieces in the palettes feature subtle hues that are destined to become favorites in your vanity. The Brick Blast and Mythical Purple eye shadow palettes, seen above, would be beloved warm and cool basics, but they're even better with Pikachu.
But the true standouts in the collection are the Pikachu accessories. My 12-year-old self is STOKED.
