Tarte Cosmetics seems to always have new products dropping — take, for examples, its latest mermaid collection. Over Easter weekend, the brand teased yet ANOTHER palette that looked like a welcome icy break from its consistently warm-toned palettes.
People seemed incredibly happy about Tarte's foray into something totally different, but, uh… they shouldn't get their hopes up.
It appeared on Sunday that Tarte was ready to do something fun, blue, and exciting.
"Are you ready to peep something new?" the brand teased on its Instagram story.
Then, behold! The brand posted a photo of its new Icy Betch palette, a cool-toned palette that looked like it was made for mermaids, lovers of bright color, and springtime.
The palette included a range of green and blue shades that crawled from the lightest to the deepest ends of the color spectrum.
Tarte even previewed the palette in action.
And it had EVERYONE ready to serve ice princess post-winter.
Metallics *could* work in spring time if we focused less on the "icy" and more on the "betch" part, right?
But hearts were soon shattered when Tarte revealed it was just an April Fool's joke.
Easter and the April Fool's landed on the same calendar date this year, so I guess Tarte couldn't resist.
But is the joke *actually* on Tarte, though? Fans thought this prank shows just how far removed Tarte really is from its customers.
Fans wanted to throw money Tarte's way for this new palette, but ended up throwing MAJOR shade instead.
"Jokes on Tarte," one fan wrote. "Seems like many people got quickly excited and expressed interest in purchasing a palette like this. Guess it's back to busted and boring neutral palettes!"
"It's so funny to me that the only interesting and innovative @tartecosmetics palette since 2016 is actually an April fool [sic] joke," another fan chimed in. "Yeah then please go ahead nad [sic] release the 1333337th warm toned palette lmfao."
"[This is] what should've been the mermaid palette," another roasted.
"This is what they should be putting out instead of those dusty ass palettes."
OUCH!
From the infamous dragging of Shape Tape foundation to the mixed reactions to that new mermaid collection, could Tarte be losing its touch?
Tarte may not ever release the Icy Betch palette for real, but let's hope they take the hint from their fans that neutral warm tones aren't *all* they want from the brand this spring.
The joke was (literally) cool, but fans want the brand to be just as creative with its *real* beauty products.
Only time — and Tarte — will tell!
