If you’ve ever seen any of the junior baking shows, you know there are plenty of children who take their culinary skills very seriously. But you don’t have to be on a national or international television show to show off your talents in the kitchen.
One 5-year-old girl in New Zealand displayed her cooking acumen in a baking competition with her adult neighbors that was seen around the world via TikTok. More than just her winning desserts, though, it’s her hilarious wit that’s made the internet fall in love with her.
The two brothers and little Harper were in competition to see who could make the best cheesecake.
Harper is the next door neighbor to Australian twins Jordan and Brandon. The brothers, also known as the musical duo Take Two, challenged Harper to a bake-off. The three generally communicate with one another behind the fence that connects their backyards. Harper, however, didn’t have to be in the same space to show them both who is the superior chef.
Even in competition, the brothers had to admit Harper's homemade ice cream was incredible.
Harper challenged the two to a cheesecake competition, and she brought some heavy ammo: fresh lemons from the lemon tree on her property and her grandmother’s recipe. Not only did she prepare a cheesecake, but she also topped it with homemade ice cream.
The brothers didn’t stand a chance.
Once they tasted Harper’s concoction, they told her, “Harper this is probably the best thing you’ve ever ever brought over the fence.”
In response, Harper said, “I really wanna win, that’s why. I take it serious, mate.”
Harper expertly negotiated the prize money.
As a part of the competition, they had to send their cheesecake over the following week. Brandon’s wife, Andrea, was the judge and she ruled in Harper’s favor.
If Harper decides to step away from the kitchen, she might have a solid future as a litigator. She successfully negotiated the prize money up from $10, threatening to quit after the initial low-ball offer.
People online couldn't taste Harper's creations but they enjoyed her trash talking.
Eventually, the three contestants settled on a $100 prize. Harper was right to do so: The baking competition and her hilarious commentary brought more than 38 million viewers to Brandon and Jordan’s TikTok.
“How is a child this funny??? I do not understand,” one commenter asked.
Whether she becomes a chef or a comedian, it’s clear that Harper is a star.
