When a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, she is often filled with emotions. There is the fear of the unknown and the hope that treatment will work and she will soon be cancer-free. Having a solid support system can make the journey a bit more calming. It is time for a huge celebration for those who make it to the end of their treatment plan and can ring the bell.
Just ask Angelica May. The North Carolina woman started her chemotherapy treatment for triple-negative breast cancer, which is rare and aggressive, in September 2023, and finally rang the bell on March 20, 2024. Her family and friends were there to celebrate the huge moment, and her boyfriend of 10 years, Imeek Watkins, decided to make the day one she'd never forget.

She completed 16 rounds of chemo.
May told WWAY she found a tumor in her right breast and began an aggressive treatment to kill the cancer. She and Watkins were high school sweethearts, and he put his dreams of being an indoor football player on hold to help her during her treatment. He also took on a second job to support her.
"Everything happened so fast and he had to put, he put his dreams to the side for me, to help me get through this," May said.
When she was ready to ring the bell, it was time for something new, and Watkins had a plan.
May rang the bell, and Watkins got down on one knee.
Family and friends gathered with May when she rang the bell, and Watkins played a bit of a trick on his then-girlfriend. She posted a video on her TikTok account, @queen__geli1, which has been viewed 1.3 million times. In it, Watkins tells May that his brother couldn't make it because he had a baby the day before, but his other niece has a message for her. The little girl says, "Congratulations, Auntie Geli. My uncle would like to know if you will marry him."
Watkins gets down on one knee and presents the love of his life with a rock, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. It was a huge surprise and an incredible blessing.
Watkins wanted to do something special for May.
He told WWAY that it was a perfect day with so many loved ones gathered together.
"I just felt like that moment would have been the best time for her," Watkins said. "I knew family, friends, coworkers, that's the best time for me to have everybody there and just be able to just do it. And it happened and it was great."
His fiancée was clearly overcome with joy that day.
On her TikTok caption, May thanked God for helping her through treatment and for bringing her Watkins.
She wrote, "Then my man did his BIG ONE and asked for my hand in marriage Wow!!! Of course I said 'YESSS' I am still soaking everything in because wheww!! He got the ugly cry out of me for sure ❤️ I can't wait to do forever with God and you!! High school seeet hearts of 10 years and gave me 10 roses baby you did that!!!! I love you beyond words!!
