We need to have an honest discussion about relationship red flags. While it’s so easy for us to point out bad behavior when it comes to other people’s relationships, we can be a whole lot less critical when it comes to our own romances. It’s not so easy to walk away once feelings are involved in the mix, so we might end up overlooking toxic behavior and warning signs in order to stay in our little fantasy bubble. But the problem is, when we ignore red flags in romantic relationships, we end up paying for it in the long run. As such, it’s best to acknowledge these problems head-on when they come up, and communicate with your partner if you feel safe to do so.

Yet in some instances, the red flags are so awful that they’re full-on dealbreakers. No matter how much you love your partner, once they start displaying this level of sheer toxicity, there’s simply no going back. Reddit user Weird-thought2112 asked, “What are the biggest red flags to notice in a new relationship?” So, here are the shadiest red flag behaviors that caused women to cut off their respective relationships.

Ugh. Been there, done that. It only led to him yelling at the waiter for no apparent reason and trying to fight the guy in front of us while we were waiting in line to see The Incredibles. I mean, who gets into a fight while on their way to a Pixar movie? Yeah, I think I’ll pass.

Oh, honey. He’s only dating you to make her jealous. Run, sis. Run!!

This should be a given. Throw the whole man in the trash.

Honestly, yes. No matter which way you try to spin it, this is an early sign of neglect.

Anti-Curious

Ever notice how he never asks you a single question about yourself? That’s because he doesn’t care about you; he cares about what you can do for him. Thank you, next.

Anger Issues

“If they snap at you for no reason, especially early on. Abrupt changes in tone, short fuse with little things. If you question it, ‘it’s just how I talk, you’re being too sensitive.’” -kween_of_bees

Never let anyone make you feel like you’re too sensitive for responding to their bad behavior! This is gaslighting 101.

Mommy Issues?

While it’s always admirable when a guy is close with his mother, “uncomfortably close” is entering Norman Bates territory. And we all know how THAT ends for the other women in his life…
