Although Lopez has remained daring, her approach to fashion has become more refined with motherhood and age. Now she opts for breezy palazzo pants and sexy jersey jumpsuits instead of velour. "Her style has certainly evolved from a more urban look," says Hobson, who owned a modeling and talent agency. "Even as a Fly Girl, she was a trendsetter. And she rocked a velour sweat suit like nobody's business. But she's definitely moved on to a more mature look in casual wear."
Curvy Elegance
Few actresses celebrate their curves the way Lopez does. Her voluptuous backside has been praised in many a rap tune and the New York native never shies away from accentuating her buxom bottom. "There may be no one better at embracing her body type and dressing correctly for it," Hobson says. "She changed the climate for a curvy figure and almost always shows off her assets to their best effect."
That Famous Dress
It's been many years since Lopez wore that now famous and very revealing green Versace dress to the Grammy Awards, but people still talk about it. Practically a signature outfit, it helped showcase Lopez's style and make her a star. "Jennifer's use of color and shape clearly comes from that notorious Grammys dress," Hobson says. "The blues and greens and the boldness of showing off her body changed her career forever."
Flashes of Glamour
Lopez's penchant for glamorous gowns is just as definitive as her signature casual style. Ask any red-carpet veteran and they will tell you that Lopez rarely misses a step in her choice of elegant and high-end evening attire. "She is the American idea of a sexy fashionista," Hobson says.
Flirty Skirts
Now that Lopez is a mom, she'd probably never wear anything like that head-turning Versace dress. But that doesn't mean she's hiding her toned body in a nun's habit either. She flaunts what she has with high slits, whimsical miniskirts and sultry shorts. "As with most women, having kids has shifted her style," says Hobson, a mom and former actress and model. "But she's in phenomenal shape and not afraid to show it."
Trouser Shorts
One of the coolest aspects of the Fiat commercial Lopez did was the sexy pair of trouser shorts she sported. Frequently complimenting them with calf-flattering pumps, Lopez has figured out a way to make this look timeless and chic. "Jennifer Lopez has always been playful," Hobson says. "The freshness she has often brought to the table is probably enhanced by motherhood. It is as if a new door opened."
