The thing about teen birthdays is that they can get a little bit trickier for parents.
Gone are the days when a pretty princess or dump truck cake would impress, or a lively game of “Pin the Tail on the Donkey” is all you need for entertainment. Coming up with ways to make teen birthdays special can be challenging.
I happen to have two teen daughters who have birthdays that are only two days apart, so I tend to feel a little extra stressed in the birthday department. I want to make their individual birthdays feel special, but it’s also hard to do anything extravagant without one feeling left out.
This year, I had the idea that it would be fun to add some of those oversize birthday yard signs that became really popular during the pandemic. That way, each girl could have a fun photo op with their friends, and the signs could stay up through both of their birthdays. Two for one!
Unfortunately for me, I quickly learned that the professional yard signs are quite pricey. The quote for a sign for three days with mandatory setup and delivery fees was close to $300. As much as I wanted to support a small business, I didn’t feel like I could justify spending $300 on birthday yard signs we would only use for a day or two to snap a few photos with.
So I did some quick searching on Amazon and found an alternative for only $35 that turned out to be exactly what I was hoping for.

I also liked how the yard signs came with a separate customizable sign option so you could add your child’s birthday or age. It was also helpful for me to reuse the signs with a second birthday two days later.
The yard signs are normally $40, which is a very affordable price on its own, but right now Amazon is also offering a clickable $5 coupon that brings the price down to $35.
The signs are sturdy and reusable, so they will last you through several years and birthdays if you store them. I can attest that I left our yard signs out during several days of severe thunderstorms, and they held up perfectly with no damage at all.
When I eventually got around to pulling them out of the ground, I put them fully assembled (with the yard stakes still attached) into large garbage bags and stored them in our garage. If you prefer to remove the stakes, they slide out easily for storage as well.

I plan to reuse our signs in the future for other birthdays, because why not? They would also be fun for hosting a birthday party outside, or for neighborhoods that can help celebrate your birthday kid with you.
To be truthful, they also make a pretty easy way to decorate. I’d much rather stick a few signs in the yard than deal with balloon arches, you know what I’m saying?
There are five color options to choose from, too: pink (our choice), black, blue, gold, and purple. All the color options come with a little touch of sparkle and corresponding string lights.
All in all, the birthday yard signs were a fun surprise for my teens. They got to snap some birthday photos with their friends, and I saved a lot of money compared to what some other yard sign options.
And if you’re looking for a super-customizable option, I love this yard sign package from Michaels, which offers a write-on birthday sign, so you can fully personalize your yard signs to the birthday boy or girl. The signs come with lights and lots of extras to decorate a yard for a birthday to remember.
