Scottish Deerhound

Fun fact: Originally bred in the 16th century for deer hunting, the breed suffered a decline in popularity as firearm technology made deer easier to hunt. Breeders Archibald and Duncan McNeill revived the Scottish Deerhound, starting in 1825.

Fun fact: The breed is also known as the Pyrenean Mountain Dog. Belle, the titular dog from the classic "Belle and Sebastian" children's books and TV series, is a Great Pyrenees.
