Dots, spots, squares and bows all are a fun way to play up sheer tights. And yes, you can wear these styles without looking childish. Smaller spots are more sophisticated than large ones, and shapes other than circles (like these ovals) also add class.

Fishnet/Mesh
Classic fishnets for work? Probably not. But with a little extra flair, these options may do the trick. On the left, from Hue, is a lace pattern that just gives the look of fishnets, since it's printed on an opaque off-white tight. The other two options, both by Via Spiga, have floral and geometric patterns, which make them feel less like fishnets and more like fun prints.

Geometric
For a funkier look, try tights with a geometric pattern. Some are totally opaque, while others, like these, have black or another color printed on a nude tight. If you want to be right on-trend, go for an Aztec print.

It may seem counterintuitive (and like something you'd think your daughter was crazy for doing), but it actually does make sense to pay for holes … at least when we're talking tights. Distressing tights is not a DIY project, because your attempts will almost certainly continue to run. A properly made pair, though, will keep its design without falling apart. Wear under shorts for a casual weekend look.
