‘I Miss Her’: 12-Year-Old Girl Dies After Falling From Window at a Sleepover With No Supervision

Charlene Cabrera dropped her 12-year-old daughter, Arya Lebeau, off at a friend’s house for a sleepover on May 23, 2025. Hours later, she received a phone call that would change her life forever. Arya fell from a third-floor window at a friend’s house during the sleepover. Cabrera claims she was told an adult would be at the home, but that evidently wasn’t the case. Tragically, Arya died from injuries sustained in the fall, and investigators are working to determine exactly what happened.

According to a statement from the Southbridge Police Department, emergency responders took Arya from an apartment in Southbridge, Massachusetts, to UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus in Worcester for treatment. Arya died from her injuries the following day. Southbridge police and detectives from the Massachusetts State Police, are investigating the death while waiting for autopsy results.

Cabrera told WCVB she thought there was an adult at Arya’s friend’s house, but the children were allegedly home alone at the time of the fall.

“I was told it was a kick, and she fell out the window,” Cabrera told WCVB.

Arya’s father, Jeremy Lebeau, told WCVB that Arya had stayed at home in the past and looked forward to spending the night at a friend’s home.

“Part of her summer list was to have sleepovers, which is what she was doing. She was the greatest child I could have in my life. I miss her. I just want closure,” the grieving dad said. “No matter what, I just want closure, I want answers.”

WCVB reported investigators called the incident “an unattended death.”

Richard Belba created a GoFundMe to help the family with Arya’s final expenses. He set a goal of $20,000, and has raised more than $16,000 so far. In a post on the fundraiser, Cabrera thanked donors for their generosity.

“I cannot express the amount of grief I feel at the loss of my only baby. I have no words, but would like to thank every single person, parent and child for reaching out and for your loving support. It is truly beautiful seeing a whole community coming together to support her,” she wrote. “I know we will raise enough money to give my baby girl a peaceful rest. I will make sure to update when we have additional information regarding the next steps.”
