Having a couple of drinks isn’t inherently bad, but abusing alcohol can lead to serious and sometimes even deadly consequences. Driving under the influence puts the drunk driver in danger as well as everyone else on the road. Police in Colorado recently pulled over a man who they suspected had been drinking. When the officer approached the driver, he came upon a pretty chaotic scene. Not only did the man appear impaired, but he also made a shocking revelation about the cargo in his trunk. What makes this even wilder is that the officer’s body cam caught the entire interaction.
The Westminster Police Department shared body cam footage on social media from a traffic stop on January 23, 2026, near City Center Drive and 93rd Avenue. The video’s caption explains that the officer immediately smelled alcohol on the unidentified driver’s breath. The driver denied consuming alcohol and initially agreed to a roadside sobriety test. In a quick decision, the driver then opted against the test. As police officers put him in handcuffs, they made a shocking discovery.
“He told officers there were kids hiding in the trunk. Sure enough, three kids were in the trunk. We’d like to point out it was also freezing temps outside during this stop. Luckily, the kids were unharmed,” the Westminster Police Department noted in the caption of the video. “Several bottles of alcohol were also recovered from inside the vehicle.”
In the video, police open the trunk, and the children, who appear to be teens, climb out. Officers took the suspect to Adams County Jail. He faces charges of suspicion of DUI, reckless driving, failure to provide insurance, and three counts of child abuse, police shared in the post. Officials with child welfare placed the children with a relative.
Police blurred the suspect’s and victims’ faces, which people appreciated.
“I think protecting the children in this case is important because those are teenagers and this can’t be easy for them. Having their friends know that this is what they’re dealing with will probably be embarrassing,” one person commented on Facebook. “As much as I’d love to see this man publicly shamed, his kids are more important.”
“This is how you know God is working, saving these poor children!” another person added.
Thankfully, those innocent kids stayed safe and the driver didn’t crash his car. We can’t imagine what could have happened if that wasn’t the case.
