4-Year-Old Boy Found Safe 22 Hours After Wandering From Family’s Campsite

A little boy in California is safe after being lost in the woods for almost 22 hours. When he seemed to disappear, Christina Ramirez, 4, was camping with his family at Rancheria Campground near Hunting Lake in Fresno County. The Fresno County Sheriff's Office issued a news release asking for help finding Christian, and volunteers came out in droves.

Per the news release, more than 50 deputies and volunteers searched through the night until they found Christian about a quarter mile from where he had last been seen. Thankfully, he was unharmed, just a little tired and hungry and excited to see his mom and dad.

The family searched for about an hour before they called police.

According to the sheriff's office, Christian’s family called around 11 a.m. to report the little boy missing. The last time his parents saw him, he was wearing shorts, a T-shirt, and tennis shoes. The sheriff's office got to work immediately.

"We currently have our Search and Rescue team, Air Support Unit, Forest Service rangers and California Fish & Wildlife officers looking for him in the northeastern portion of Huntington Lake," the department announced on Facebook.

Many people wanted to help find the little boy.

Dozens of volunteers showed up at the campsite to help look for Christian, and the next day, they located him sleeping near a tree. The sheriff's office praised everyone who helped in the search efforts.

"This was an amazing show of teamwork and dedication. There were more than 50 deputies and volunteers who combined to participate in this search," the sheriff shared in the news release. "This included members of other law enforcement agencies who assisted us, working non-stop throughout the night."

The sheriff's office shared a video of the rescue.

The video shows a member of the rescue team carrying Christian through the woods back to his family. The caption reads, "After missing for 22 hours, search and rescue team members found Christian Ramirez nestled under a tree near Huntington Lake. He was hungry and exhausted, but otherwise in good health. We got him a sandwich and then carried him out to be reunited with Mom and Dad."

The video is emotional.

The sheriff's department's Facebook page was flooded with people praying for the family and thanking those who helped find Christian.

"I truly believe this was a Miracle from God above !" someone wrote. "All of us Prayer Warriors pleaded and prayed and God saved this little angel with the beautiful name of Christian! All the Glory to God most high! Amen."

"What an amazing outcome. God is good. Fresno SAR is top notch," another comment reads. "In a world in which we hear and see bad things on a daily basis, it's uplifting to know this child is safe and reunited with his parents."

Many people were just happy the boy was safe.

So many were thrilled for Chistian's family.

Like this person who wrote, "I can't even imagine his family how happy they must be on this second change!"

"That's so amazing to see! How are his parents so calm and collective?" one person wondered. "I'm crying just watching and I don't even know the little boy. I would be a hot mess for sure!"

This person warned others not to judge, writing, "Yay! Everyone talking bad about the parents. Sometimes kids really do wonder off. It takes a second to get lost in a forest."
