When police arrested a Utah mother in July 2025, they had no idea what they’d soon learn about her past. Elizabeth Rose Conlin, 42, is accused of horrific crimes against her children, but it wasn’t until police arrested her in July that her two young kids finally spoke out about their mother’s alleged abuse. Conlin, on the other hand, has painted a picture on social media of a doting mother. It’s the kind of story that makes you wonder what really happens behind closed doors.
According to court documents obtained by KSL, police arrested Colin in July for an “unrelated crime.” At that time, her 11-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter reportedly “felt safe to come forward with the history of abuse that they’ve endured for many years.” The children claimed Conlin and “her ex,” 42-year-old Kalon Ray Colvin, physically abused them on a number of occasions.
Court documents reveal Conlin’s son told investigators his mother spanked him and his sister with a “red belt” but told them to lie if anyone asked what happened.
“(He) said Conlin told him to make up a story about him falling to explain his injuries to his back and butt,” investigators noted, per KSL.
The boy told police about another time when Conlin allegedly beat him with a wooden spoon for not doing chores. He also shared a story about a time his mother “continuously hit him with a belt” on his face, neck, and legs.
Conlin’s son told police it wasn’t just beatings, KSL reported. He claimed she also made him stand in a corner for hours on end and run hundreds of laps. If he was outside, she didn’t allow him to wear a coat in cold weather.
Conlin’s daughter backed up the claims and told investigators their mother used belts to beat them.
In an Instagram post from as recently as June 2025, Conlin seemed every bit the loving mother. She shared photos of herself with a child and a bit of an odd caption.
“My Amore My Bubbs My Boo Boo Boo Boo My Bubby My luvs My Last Luvs he’s my calmness. My anxiety has been so low w him around. He told me I luv how you luv you luv Mummy!!! You just luv me for me and show me you luv me!!!” Conlin wrote in the post. “You’re the best thing your Daddy and I EVER DID THAT WILL NEVER NOT BE!!! No matter what you were made out of luv!!! Your Daddy said I luv you when he put you inside me!!! Daddy and Mummy made the SpidyBat!!!”
According to prosecutors, Conlin “has an extensive violent criminal history, including stalking, aggravated assault, protective order violations, domestic violence in the presence of children, assault, and property damage.”
On October 17, prosecutors charged Conlin with child torture, aggravated child abuse, and obstruction of justice, along with other less serious charges, KSL reported.
She’s currently in the Salt Lake County Jail, being held without bond. If these allegations are true and she’s convicted, may she remain behind bars for a very long time. Hopefully, her children will heal and find a loving home.
