Bride Pranks Groom With Hilarious Lord Farquaad ‘First Look’

There are some wedding traditions that have become more popular in recent years. For some couples, it’s the idea of a “first look,” which is a private moment between the couple where the groom typically sees his bride in her dress before the ceremony. I know, how modern, right? But when one totally unserious bride used the first look to prank her husband-to-be, it might have breathed new life into the tradition. She also posted the first look reaction on TikTok, because, hello, gen Z, social media, you know the drill.

Don’t get me wrong. I love a good wedding moment where emotions run high and the years flow. But this bride pranked her husband by having someone dressed as Lord Farquaad from Shrek tap him on the shoulder instead of her. It’s really a first look for the ages, and I can only imagine how entertaining other first looks would be and how it would take away some of the tension of a couple’s big day if more people did this. Also, Lord Farquaad is just obscure and niche enough to make the first look even more hilarious.

The groom had no idea his bride wasn’t there for the first look.

The content creator and bride, Syd Wingold, is known by her followers for making funny videos and dressing up in costume for some of them. She has been Captain Jack Sparrow in a toilet, a worm working at her laptop, Humpty Dumpty lip syncing to SINGER, the Lorax, and many other characters. When she posted the video of her first look prank on her husband, it was because, per her caption, she couldn’t not have a costume at her wedding. Hey, at least she didn’t dress up like Lord Farquaad herself and at least she kept the costumes out of the actual ceremony. It’s the little things.

In the video, Syd’s new brother-in-law is dressed as Lord Farquaad. He quietly walks up to Syd’s soon-to-be husband and gives him a light tap on his shoulder. When the groom turns around, expecting to see Syd in a gorgeous white gown, he’s met with his own brother in costume and they both start cracking up. Can all first looks be like this? Sure, the romantic intent behind the original idea of a first look is cute and a wedding is supposed to be full of romance, I get it. But this is how you do a first look and I refuse to accept anything less than humor.

“As a wedding planner I’m disappointed I’ve never witnessed this before,” one user commented on the TikTok.

“This is so absurdly random I love it,” someone else wrote.

Really, every second of the TikTok is gold. In the video, right before Syd’s groom’s brother taps him on the shoulder, he glances at the camera with a huge grin. He is an icon, and he is the moment.

“If I can’t prank my future husband with a silly fake first look then I don’t want it lol,” one woman said in the comments, and same girl, same.

Another added, “My favorite thing about this video is that normally in these videos the grooms are serious and about to cry because they think they’re about to have their first look. This guy is so used to her costumes that he’s smiling and about to laugh knowing there’s gotta be a prank outfit first.”
