School bus drivers are entrusted with the lives of children every day. Because of this, there is a certain level of trust between parents and drivers. Shockingly, a bus driver was arrested after he allegedly kidnapped and sexually abused a girl for 12 years.
Carlos Humberto Grisales Higuita faces multiple serious charges connected to the allegations. In 2012, the school bus driver allegedly kidnapped a 7-year-old girl in Colombia. Only recently was she finally able to escape and report the crimes.

The school bus driver was arrested and charged in Colombia.
In late November, Grisales Higuita was arrested on multiple charges related to the disappearance of a girl in 2012, People reported. He was charged with simple kidnapping, sexual abuse with a minor under 14 years of age, and sexual acts with a minor under 14 years of age, Colombia’s attorney general’s office said in a news conference, per People. Additionally, Grisales Higuita was charged with pornography with a person under 18 years of age.
He allegedly kidnapped her when she was only 7 and sexually assaulted her.
Prosecutors claim Grisales Higuita kidnapped the unnamed girl when she was 7 and sexually assaulted her for 12 years, CBS News reported. During this time, Grisales Higuita moved between addresses in Medellin and Bello and allegedly raped the girl on camera.
He also allegedly manipulated and isolated her.
Grisales Higuita reportedly changed the girl’s name and moved her to different locations. Additionally, he allegedly took her out of school and prevented her from communicating with other people. The prosecutor’s office said Grisales Higuita “psychologically manipulated” the girl “into making her believe that this type of behavior is normal,” CBS News reported.

At 16, she reportedly confronted him.
When the girl turned 16, she allegedly confronted Grisales Higuita about her treatment, People reported. His response, reportedly, was to lock her in the home. It wasn’t until February 2024 that she escaped and reported him.
Grisales Higuita denies the charges against him.
Ultimately, National Police arrested Grisales Higuita in Medellín, CBS News reported. He appeared in court shortly afterward, during which he denied all charges against him, the news outlet noted. Grisales Higuita was ordered to be held in pre-trial detention.
