Pit bulls not only attack humans more than any other dog breed, but they are also the most likely to be involved in fatal attacks. It's a troubling statistic for sure and does nothing to help the stigma surrounding the breed. Numbers don't lie, however; pit bulls are considered one of the most dangerous dog breeds.
Sadly, children are often the victims of vicious dog attacks. A 4-year-old girl recently died after her family's pit bull attacked her. The animal reportedly had no previous incidences of aggressive behavior.

The Visalia Police Department in California recently responded to a call about a family pit bull attacking a 4-year-old.
On September 4, a little after 8 p.m., Visalia police responded to a call involving a family pit bull attacking a child. The girl, 4, had finished swimming and was inside her home when the attack occurred, according to a news release from the department shared via Facebook. Fox 26 identified the child as Zoey Hawkins.
Zoey Hawkins died as a result of her injuries.
"Despite immediate medical attention and being transported to the hospital, she sadly passed away from her injuries," the police department shared in its release.
An investigation revealed "no signs of neglect or criminal wrongdoing," the department reported. "This heart-wrenching event is a tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this incredibly difficult time."
The dog has been euthanized.
Reportedly, the pit bull did not have a history of violent behavior, a representative for the police department told People. "The dog was taken by animal control and euthanized that evening at the family’s request," the source told the magazine.

In the wake of Zoey's death, a GoFundMe campaign was started for the family.
A GoFundMe campaign organized on behalf of Zoey's family has a goal of $20,000.
"We are heartbroken to share that Zoey, a vibrant and loving 4-year-old, tragically lost her life due to a devastating dog attack," the page description reads. "In this time of unimaginable grief, we are coming together to support the family."
More than $12,000 has been raised so far.
The money will be used to "cover the costs of funeral and memorial service, ensuring that she receives a proper and heartfelt farewell," according to the GoFundMe page description. "Additionally, any remaining funds will go directly to her parents to help alleviate the financial burden they are facing during this incredibly difficult time."
