Cowardly Shooter Flees Scene After Starting Fight at 2-Year-Old’s Funeral & Firing Assault Rifle Into Crowd

Haley Ann Lockwood’s 2-year-old daughter, Harley Clark, died on April 19, 2026. Harley’s death was both shocking and heartbreaking to her family. They planned a celebration of Harley’s life on April 25 at Rich & Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington, North Carolina. The day should have been all about Harley, but a fight broke out and a shooting began. The alleged shooter, Trevonte Jaquan McGhee, took off, but his getaway driver, Cazari Monique Russell, crashed the car a short time later, and police arrested both. Lockwood said the karma is what the pair deserved.

Lockwood made sure every detail was perfect for her little girl.

The family planned a viewing on Friday evening and the celebration of life on Saturday. Lockwood chose a flowered dress for her baby girl, and the mother and daughter wore matching wrist corsages. As the mother prepared to say her final goodbye, McGhee allegedly began to fight with another person inside the funeral home. According to a news release from the Burlington Police Department, multiple people contacted the Burlington Police Department claiming McGhee took the fight outside and reportedly shot several rounds from an assault rifle.

Russell reportedly raced the pair away from the scene.

Police arrived at the funeral home and began pursuing McGhee and Russell.

“Responding officers quickly located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle fled prompting officers to give chase. During the chase, the suspect threw the assault rifle from the vehicle. The pursuit continued for a few blocks before the driver lost control and crashed into a house,” police shared in the news release.

Police immediately detained Russell at the accident scene, but McGhee apparently tried to outrun officers. They arrested him shortly afterward.

McGhee faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, armed terror of the people, discharging a firearm in city limits, disorderly conduct at a funeral home, and leaving the scene of a crash as a passenger, per the release. Russell faces charges of armed terror of the people, misdemeanor conspiracy, reckless driving, and failure to stop.

Lockwood called the arrests ‘karma.’

The grieving mother thinks her daughter had a hand in the suspects’ arrests.

“Karma a b—h. My god don’t play about mine. Harley got that a– so mfn fast. She said oh yea yall not gonna do that on my day and not have no consequences,” she wrote in a post on social media.

The thought of someone bringing a gun to a funeral shocked people.

“Why the hell would someone do this at a funeral…let alone a babies funeral?? Disgusting,” someone asked in the comments.

“Instant karma as they deserved trying to ruin her day!” another person added.

This makes no sense at all. What beef could be so important that you would fight and pull a rifle at a toddler’s funeral like this? It’s truly disgusting. McGhee’s got a rap sheet and should have known better. In fact, any decent human being knows better. There’s absolutely no excuse for this.
