Police in Georgia arrested a father after he allegedly left his three children unsupervised at a McDonald’s restaurant. Chris Louis, 24, reportedly told police it was for a good reason – he was interviewing for a job. The incident occurred at a McDonald’s at 2902 Washington Road in Augusta on March 22, 2025. Customers reportedly noticed the young children alone and called police for help. When Louis returned to retrieve his children, he found authorities wanting to talk to him.
Louis allegedly left a 1-, 6-, and 10-year-old child unattended about 4:30 p.m., the Augusta Press reported. A witness told police they saw the father with the kids and that he reportedly left, returned, and left again. Concerned, they called police, who waited for Louis to return to the restaurant until around 6:20 p.m. The father had a sad story for police.
He allegedly said he and the children walked from their apartment to McDonald’s, but Louis didn’t want them to have to walk back while he interviewed for a job nearby. Instead, he apparently thought he could leave them at McDonald’s and retrieve them when he finished. The father told police he did not have a car.
The children’s mother showed up at the restaurant a short time later, and police arrested Louis. He faces charges of deprivation of a minor.
News of Louis’ arrest sparked conversation from many people. Some thought the police unfairly punished Louis, who tried to improve his life for himself and his family.
“Now this is so wrong, man trying to make a living its hard for daycare when you dont have the funds,” someone commented on the Jail Report’s Facebook post. Dont nobody know his situation but arresting him is wrong asf…Once again these pervs recording in the stores of us women an kids dont even get arrested. The world fd up no lie. Could’ve gave bruh a ticket this was unnecessary asf.”
Many agreed, such as this person who wrote, “This is bs. If they were not in distress when the officer found them , THEY should have been left alone. He is trying!”
But others believed Louis made a mistake leaving the kids alone.
One wrote, “This is one of those time where unfortunately he has to suffer consequences for his actions because those babies could have been hurt, kidnapped, or worse.. so yes to consequences but don’t give him a punishment more severe than true crooks out here , and offer him some dang help!! Where’s our community resources? At least he was actively looking for a job instead of bumming it like so many others. May he find him a good job and his family be blessed.”
This person offered to help, writing, “If this man sees this post I’m a nurse who lives in the area. I will watch your children for you to be able to go find a job. Let’s give solutions instead of arresting people trying to make a living. It takes a village to raise children and some people don’t have that!!”
