If you’ve been on social media long enough, you might have heard of gender disappointment. It’s exactly what it sounds like — the feeling a parent gets during a gender reveal party when they find out their baby boy or girl is not the gender they had hoped for. You might also see tons of comments from encouraging users saying that gender disappointment is legitimate and totally OK. But it also seems a little counterproductive as a parent, and when a dad showed his own disappointment at his baby’s gender in an elaborate party in a video on TikTok, the Internet wasn’t so forgiving.
Maybe if the gender reveal setup wasn’t so bougie. Or, maybe if the dad had just kept a smile on his face the entire time, the result would have been one that other social media users could overlook. But, it turns out, gender disappointment to this degree is gonna be a no from the rest of the internet, dog.
The dad didn’t even hide his disappointment.

The mom-to-be in the video, Adia Osorio, who also posted the gender reveal moment, looks excited in the clip. In order to find out her baby’s gender, she and her husband open an armoire. The idea seems to be that if it’s filled with blue clothes and accessories, it means they’re having a boy. Pink means girl, as is customary.
So when Adia and her husband open the doors and are faced with a wall of pink frills in the form of dresses and bows, she smiles excitedly. The dad, on the other hand? He has a tight, small smile as he brushes pink confetti off his shoulder multiple times. Yeah, it’s that kind of reaction.
“I hope you and your daughter have a wonderful life together,” one user commented.
Another person noted, “Please don’t show this video to your daughter when she’s older it would break her heart.”
Maybe the dad isn’t even disappointed, but instead in shock. We can (kind of) give him the benefit of the doubt here. Then again, it’s still hard to ignore his reaction, or his lack of a big happy reaction that you might expect.
“Bruh, I’ve been more excited in a McDonald’s drive thru than this guy at his literally child’s gender reveal,” another TikTok user wrote in the comments.
People even urged the expectant mom to leave him.

Some users in the comments wrote that Adia should just leave her husband already. But, she says in a follow-up video, they’ve got it all wrong. Well, more or less. She shared a video of her looking at the camera with audio from something else. But on the screen, she wrote, “Me posting our baby’s gender reveal completely unaware the entire internet was about to psychoanalyze my husband.”
In the caption, she noted that she and her husband already knew the gender ahead of the reveal. Still, people had a lot to say about her husband’s reaction.
And, another cheeky commenter added under this video, “Look guys, it’s her life. Let’s just stay out of it (and set a reminder to come back here in a year).”
Gender reveals like this are the norm these days.
To be fair, gender reveals of this magnitude and with these kinds of reactions do happen. For some reason, it’s these kinds of gender reveal reactions that go viral on social media rather than the more wholesome ones. And maybe in this case, we just caught the dad-to-be in his feels or at a wrong moment. The mom-to-be also isn’t without support in general. Adia did share another video where she notes that she is “rich in life” because her family’s reaction to her baby’s gender was over the moon excited.
