Dad Arrived at Daughter’s Birthday Party & Killed His Kids’ Mom Then Drove Them 8 Hours to Grandma’s

I can’t presume to know every single human’s intention, but I have to assume that when two people are vulnerable enough to create a child together, on some level (and at some point) they implicitly trusted each other. I know that isn’t the case for every couple, but the reality is I think a large percentage of humans try to create life with someone they believe is worthy. Sometimes those people prove you wrong; they break your trust in one way or another but ultimately consider the well-being of the kids as the prize they keep their eyes on. A Minnesota father reportedly had no such qualms when he made the decision to end the life of the woman who gave life to his children.

Wesley Koboi, 33, is facing second-degree murder charges after allegedly killing the 29-year old mother of his children, Shaniya Thompson. According to Law & Crime, St. Paul police received a call about a woman being shot at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Broadway.

Authorities believe, however, that Thompson was actually killed the day before, according to a probable cause affidavit the outlet reviewed. According to the document, their daughter told cops she was in Michigan and said she didn’t know if her mother was OK but did note that Koboi had a weapon with him and that the two were arguing during a birthday party for one of her siblings. Another child informed officials that Koboi pulled out a “short” firearm and held it to Thompson’s head. They were ordered out of the room and shortly after heard a loud “thud.”

KSTP reported that the child claimed Thompson was trying to take the firearm from Koboi and originally believed the shot they heard was a misfire trying to get it away from him. One of the children also reportedly called Thompson’s father and told him they were worried about her.

When police entered the apartment, they found Thompson in a pool of blood with the weapon and a phone near her body.

Koboi allegedly informed the children they were leaving and drove them for eight hours to Michigan, where his mother reportedly lives. She said the kids arrived on a Friday morning but she wasn’t aware they were coming and was told they were there just to “celebrate Christmas.”

He then reportedly took his brother’s vehicle and walked across the border into Canada, per KSTP. While there, he booked a flight to Mexico, but he was arrested in Toronto.

Thompson’s devastated family has set up a GoFundMe account to manage funeral costs and support the mother’s five children.

Thompson’s sister Shayna Jason wrote: “These children witnessed the unthinkable, and now they are left not only grieving their mother but also facing trauma that no child should ever endure. They will need counseling, care, and support as they try to heal. With Christmas so close, we are heartbroken knowing they may go without during what should be a time of love and comfort.”
