A North Carolina father allegedly killed his 6-year-old daughter and attempted to take his own life by suicide. Michael Roach reportedly took off with his daughter, Mianna, around 3 a.m. March 24, 2025. The child’s mother called 911 for help, and the Polkton Police Department arrived a short time later. Authorities quickly began the search for Roach and Mianna.
According to a statement, police could not issue an Amber Alert because “there was no legal documentation establishing custody.” Instead, police issued a BOLO alert for the father and the missing vehicle. Per police, Roach allegedly went into Mianna’s mother’s bedroom in the middle of the night, threatened her with a gun, and took off with Mianna in her mother’s car.
Several hours later, about 8 a.m., a deputy reportedly spotted the stolen black Jeep and tried to pull over the vehicle, the statement added. Roach allegedly fled but lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch. Upon further investigation of the crash scene, police found Mianna dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Roach apparently also had a gunshot wound but survived. Emergency crews took him to an area hospital in critical condition and he was flown to another hospital for treatment, the police statement noted. Roach has since died in the hospital, WCCB reported.
Mianna’s unidentified mother shared a now-deleted fundraiser on Give a Hand, per People. “I am trying to raise money to bury my beautiful 6 year old baby girl,” she wrote. “Whom left this world to early by the hands of the father she loved her whole little life.”
Polkton Police Chief Tim Hutchinson shared a statement about the case on Facebook that reads in part, “[W]e ask that you have respect for the families and quit making assumptions. We are not covering anything up but we can’t release everything that is involved with this investigation because if we have to go to trial and the wrong information gets out then it could cause problems and we definitely want justice for Mianna. So please before you post things on social media or watch the news and come up with your own assumptions of this case, please think about the families involved and what they are going through right now. Thank You and have a great day.”
“Continued prayers for the family. And may this child rest peacefully in the arms of Jesus,” one follower commented on the police chief’s post. “Thank you for all you did to help . God bless and keep you all.”
“Sending love and prayers to them!!” someone else shared. “My heart is shattered for them.”
