What to Know
Have you ever tried to teach your teen a hard lesson? If so, you might relate a little to this father’s story. A dad has taken to TikTok to share that one morning he had to go down to his 13 year old daughter’s school because another teen allegedly stole her phone out of her backpack. The frustrated dad shared that he filed a police report to charge the teen with felony theft. The only way he might change his mind is if the parents of the teenager decide to pay him the $1000 he will need to replace his daughter’s phone.
A dad took to TikTok to reveal he planned on pressing charges against a 13-year-old who allegedly stole his daughter’s phone.
A dad on TikTok with the handle @thebeardiestbear shared a video in which he divulged that he is planning on moving forward with pressing charges against a 13-year-old girl at his daughter’s school who, he says, stole her cell phone from her backpack.
He shared that in March when his daughter told him this happened, she said she knew who it was that allegedly stole the phone, they just didn’t have any proof at the time. The dad shared that when he received a phone call from the school principal saying that his daughter’s phone was found and it was the girl in question, he decided to march down to the school and file a police report to potentially press charges.
“I don’t give a f—, I will press charges against a child,” the father shared. He did say that if the child’s parents agree to pay him $1000 to pay for his daughter’s new phone, he would be willing to leave things there.
A lot of parents in the comments tend to agree with the way this dad handled the situation.

Surprisingly enough, there are lots of parents in the TikTok comments section who fully backs this father when it comes to filing a police report and handling the theft on a legal level.
One parent shared, “Your terms are reasonable. Hopefully, the parents make the right decision. Good for you on being mature about the situation.” It would be nice if the parents of the child did the right thing and reimbursed him the money for his daughter’s phone, but $1000 is a good chunk of change.
Another individual in the comments said they would actually take things one step further. “I say file the charges and also take the parents to small claims court and charge the for court filling fees and the phone,” they wrote.
Another parent shared that this could be a good lesson for the other teen about how life works when you mess up. “That’s harsh. You know what else is? Life. I tell my son all the time, there’s good consequences and bad consequences. You know right from wrong and you’re responsible for your actions, nobody else,” they wrote.
Some people in the comments are questioning why this dad feels his 13-year-old needs a $1000 phone.

One thing that tends to stick out for some people here is why this dad needs to buy his daughter a phone that costs $1000. That’s a pretty hefty price tag for something that a teenager is taking to school and could potentially lose or have stolen. The dad does make it clear that he feels very strongly about being able to reach his daughter during this day in age with things like school shootings being so prevalent in the United States.
One person in the TikTok comments shared, “Why do you have to get her a $1K phone? I don’t even have that for myself.” Another person shared that same sentiment. “I don’t disagree about teens having a phone, BUT why does she need a $1000+ phone?” they wrote.
Another individual in the comments gave their take on the phone situation. “Ya I’m with you.. but a $1000 phone.. I understand trying to give kid want they want.. but there are a lot of smart phones 1/2 that price or less.. or keep the $1000 phone at home. and pick up a 200 one for emergency at school.. that’s the only flaw I see,” they wrote.
They do make a good point that your child can have a phone, but does it really need to be a super expensive model, especially considering that kids and teenagers lose things all the time?
