The relationship between a mother and her son can be very strong. As boys become men, their interests change, and they become less dependent on their moms. Sometimes, another girl catches the son’s eye, which can cause tension between him and his mother. Of course, most moms can let their sons go to live the life they want. Others cannot.
Erika Maria Herrera couldn’t stand the attention her son gave his wife, Carolina Flores Gomez, so she reportedly shot and killed Gomez inside her Mexico City home on April 15, 2026. But like a coward, Herrera took off to Venezuela. Less than two weeks later, police have her in custody and ready to face charges.
The whole story is strange.

According to a video posted on X by local journalist Carlos Jiménez, Flores Gomez’s husband, Alejandro Sánchez, was in the house when his mother allegedly shot and killed his wife. He confronted her, and she told him that his wife had made her “angry.” Strangely, Sánchez didn’t stop his mother and let her flee his home, but that’s not the only weird thing the son did.
Sánchez reportedly waited until the next day to contact police.

He was apparently in his home with his dead wife’s body but didn’t call the police because he wanted to care for their 8-month-old son. The father told Uno TV his breastfed baby needed his help and that he tried to breastfeed his baby from his wife’s dead body.
Yes, we understand the instinct to care for your child, but still, why wouldn’t you call the police immediately? Sure, the alleged shooter is his mother, but she apparently killed the mother of his child. That needs to be reported, right?
The entire situation has left people dumbfounded.
Several people left comments on Uno TV’s YouTube video, and they don’t understand how any of this happened.
“The little dog reacted more scared and worried than the husband himself, who was so lukewarm and unconcerned about the situation that it’s hard to believe that someone in his family died, as he even says,” one person wrote in a translation of the Spanish post.
“How sad, the worst part is that the murderers act as if nothing happened; they must be used to this kind of behavior. How awful!” someone else added.
Plenty of people believe Sánchez did everything wrong. He should have called the police immediately and not let his mother get away.
“Horror! How much evil and hatred directed at that innocent young woman, and her husband so calm. And if he’s an accomplice, it’s obvious. Even the dogs sensed the danger of death, especially the little black dog,” someone added in a translated comment. “May the full weight of the law be brought down on the murderer and her husband. Strength to Carolina’s family. May she rest in peace. Amen.”
Authorities put Herrera on an Interpol Red Notice list this week, according to People. The Office of the Attorney General of Mexico City credited this move in finally locating her. Herrera’s now facing extradition to Mexico City.
But what about her son? Will he face charges? There’s no way what he did is considered OK under the law. Their poor baby lost his mom and could lose his grandmother and father if they’re convicted. What a mess.
