Dad’s Response Goes Viral After Being Accused of Shoplifting During Son’s Field Trip

Field trips would be a nightmare if it weren't for parent volunteers. Thankfully, moms and dads show up year after year to help wrangle children and learn a thing or two along the way. Not every volunteer gets a gold star for their work, but most teachers are happy to have an extra set of eyes and ears.

Roy Wier, just wanted to help his 8-year-old son's class when they went on a museum field trip in the spring and thought he'd done his job well. The kids returned to school in one piece, and Wier enjoyed himself.

That was until he got a call from school about an alleged shoplifting incident at the museum's gift shop. But it wasn't one of the kids they were after, they blamed Wier for having sticky fingers, and his response went viral.

Wier isn't rich, but he's no thief.

The dad shared on his TikTok, @vigilant_roy, that the principal from his son's school called, and said someone at the museum gift shop said Wier had stolen a mug.

"One of the volunteers in the gift shop said that I left with a mug without paying for a mug, and so the principal called me about this. I said, 'Well I'm not rich but I got mug money. I didn't take a mug,'" Wier explained in the viral video.

Then he went searching for the missing mug.

He's a busy dad with a lot on his mind, so she evidently thought that maybe he'd picked up a mug by mistake. He scavenged his truck and home to look and was 100% certain he didn't have the mug in question.

It turned out to be a misunderstanding, and the gift shop agreed that the dad wasn't a thief. He could have left it at that, but Wier had something else in mind.

He isn't a thief, but he's a clever guy.

Wier went back to the gift shop and purchased all 64 of their mugs at retail price. He then went to his friend, who has a small business, to make stickers for the mugs. Wier then distributed the mugs to all the staff at his son's school.

The stickers say, "Definitely not stolen from: Vigilant Home Inspections & Adios Radon Mitigation."

His mug idea was a hit.

His video has been viewed 1.6 million times, and folks think he is hilarious.

One person wrote: "I may not be rich, but I got mug money . I don't know why but I loved that."

His joke made a lot of people laugh. "This is top shelf petty & I love it ," someone else commented.

The accusation led to a new business venture.

TikTokers urged him to get merch going and he did. He now sells mugs, T-shirts, and stickers to anyone who wants the world to know they've got mug money, too.

We love a dad with a sense of humor, and this guy has it. Maybe the next time the people at school have some hot tea to spill, they'll grab your mug to sip out of while they discuss.
