A 15-year-old boy died from stab wounds received in a horrific attack on February 14, 2025. David Gutierrez reportedly took his girlfriend to Santana Row in San José, California, for a Valentine’s Day date. What started as a romantic evening ended in tragedy. The San José Police Department responded to a report of a fight about 7:15 p.m. When they arrived, police found David had at least one stab wound. Emergency responders took him to an area hospital, where he died of his wounds.
David’s death shocked his family, who issued a statement obtained by KGO. The family shared, “Our precious young boy is an amazing young man whose life was taken too soon at the young age of 15. He was enrolled in college-bound classes to help him prepare for college. He was active in the community church activities.”
Berto Barrita, David’s boxing instructor, shared kind words with KGO.
“He was a good kid, he was outgoing, friends with everybody here, all these young guys here was a friend of his. Somebody so young and devastating how it went down and all that,” Barrita said. “He joined because a lot of his friends would come here too and he just wanted to be with his friends, hang out, and box.”

Police have not charged anyone in connection with David’s death.
David’s aunt, Diana Gutierrez, created a GoFundMe account to help raise money for David’s final expenses. She wrote, “David S. Gutierrez, a 15-year-old, was attacked by a group of juveniles in Santa Clara while he was on a date with his girlfriend to celebrate Valentine’s Day. He was beaten and then stabbed in the heart. David fought for his life but didn’t make it to surgery. We lost our baby.”
Donors shared kind words on the fundraising page.
“Im so sorry for your loss. He was still a baby 🙁 This is heartbreaking,” one person wrote. “He was the same age as my nephews. I’m really sorry. May God comfort you and your family in this difficult time. God Bless you.”
Another agreed and commented, “My deepest condolences for your loss- this hurt me being that my son is also 15. Am sorry. Hoping for justice in this case. May he rest in peace.”
The GoFundMe has surpassed its original $20,000 goal, bringing in more than $30,000 in donations thus far.
