What to Know
Jan Hall awoke on June 11, 2026, to a horrific confession from her husband, Dennis Hall. The 71-year-old told his wife he had killed their 40-year-old disabled daughter, Devin Hall. He called 911 for help and reportedly told the dispatcher the same story. When emergency responders arrived at the family’s Woodbury, New Jersey home, they found Devin unresponsive. After attempted life-saving measures, they transported her to a nearby hospital, where she remained on life support until the following day. Police arrested Dennis Hall, who faces murder charges.
Jan Hall adored her daughter.
The heartbroken woman told WPVI Devin had multiple disabilities from birth. She was both nonverbal and a wheelchair user, but her mother said she communicated in different ways.
“I read her a lot through her eyes,” Jan Hall said. “So I knew when something wasn’t right with her, and she could sense when something wasn’t right with me.”
Jan Hall also said that Dennis Hall had been fighting depression and mental illness for the last year. She worried about his mental health. “It’s like hell. I feel like I’m walking in a nightmare,” she said.
Devin’s mother thought she misunderstood.
Jan Hall told WPVI that when Dennis Hall woke her early in the morning, his comments confused her.
“When he woke me up, I asked him what was wrong, and he said, ‘I strangled Devin. She’s dead.’ And I thought I didn’t hear him right,” she said.
The brokenhearted mother told WPVI she cannot understand what came over Dennis Hall. If he needed help, she gladly would have helped him.
“I would just like him to tell me why he did it. He had an opportunity to come in and get me when he went in there, and she had wet the bed. He could’ve came and woke me up. And I could’ve helped him,” Jan Hall said.
According to her obituary, Devin lived a full and happy life.

She loved to travel, had been to 32 states, and adored Toby Keith’s music. “Her other favorites were being strolled on long walks with her mother and being peddled on her bike. This precious child of God is now walking on streets paved with gold, completely whole and ‘safe’ in the arms of Jesus.”
Her family will remember Devin for the positive impact she had on those around her.
“Devin was a special daughter who endured many challenges and struggles during her life on this earth. She was an inspiration to others, and she touched many with her beauty, gentle kindness, and innocent presence,” the passage reads.
Dennis Hall may never leave prison.
According to a release from the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, police took Dennis Hall into custody at the scene of his daughter’s death. Per autopsy results from the Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland Regional Medical Examiner, Devin Hall died from asphyxiation, and the manner of death was homicide.
Dennis Hall remains in the Salem County Jail on a first-degree murder charge. According to the prosecution, if he’s convicted, Dennis Hall could spend the rest of his life in prison.
