Police in New Jersey, have arrested an elementary school teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student. Laura Caron, now 34, allegedly began an affair with an 11-year-old student in 2016. The relationship reportedly ended in 2020, but not before Caron gave birth to the student’s child in 2019. But it apparently took years for police to learn about the alleged affair.
The victim’s father reportedly posted on social media about Caron’s 5-year-old child, according to WPVI. He evidently thought the child looked similar to him and his son. Investigators began to look into the accusations and made startling discoveries.
According to court documents, via WPVI, Caron taught the victim and his brother in fifth grade at Middle Township Elementary School No. 2. Caron reportedly befriended the victim’s family, and he and his siblings often spent the night at her house. During the course of the investigation, the victim’s sister shared details with police. She alleged her brother began to sleep in Caron’s bed when he was about 11 years old.
The sister also told police she received a text from her brother admitting he was the father of Caron’s baby. He allegedly asked her to keep the information secret, per WPVI. The victim reportedly admitted to police he had an affair with Caron. He also said he kept in communication with her until his father made the Facebook post in December 2024.

Police ultimately arrested Caron on January 15, 2025, according to a news release from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecutor Jeffery Sutherland shared in the release, “This arrest underscores the unwavering commitment of our office and law enforcement partners to protect the children in our community. Teachers hold a position of great trust, and the allegations in this case represent a deeply troubling breach of that trust. We will work tirelessly to ensure justice is served and to support the victim and their family throughout this process.”
Middle Township Police Chief Tracey Super also vowed to protect children in the release, saying, “I want to personally assure the parents of Middle Township that we are taking every step possible to ensure the safety of our children. Our department is working closely with the Prosecutor’s Office to ensure that every aspect of this case is thoroughly investigated.”
Middle Township School District Superintendent David Salvo shared a statement with WPVI confirming the district placed Caron on paid administrative leave while the district investigates.
Caron is in Cape May County Correctional Center on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child, the news outlet reported.
