When you’re the parent of teenagers, you can pretty much expect them to push their boundaries and even take things too far from time to time because they’re still learning those difficult life lessons that will take them into early adulthood. Adults, though, have lived more life and should know better. Sadly, that’s not always the case. The 43-year-old disgraced former mayor of DeRidder, Louisiana, attended a booze-filled teen pool party in 2024. To make matters even worse, her son said he saw his mother engage in a sexual encounter with a fellow underage partygoer that night.
Misty Roberts was initially arrested in August 2024 on charges of third-degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, according to Louisiana State Police at the time. She is accused of having sex with a teenage boy while at a pool party with a group of teens. Her son, who attended the party, stated in a 2025 interview shown during the court trial that through a crack in a window, he saw his mother having sex with his friend, KLPC reported.
Text messages between Roberts and her son were shown to the court, and in them the pair discussed what alcohol the teens wanted for their party, per the news outlet. There were also messages sent the evening of the party showing the former mayor’s son telling her what was happening was “crazy” and he texted his mother a warning that read, “He is seventeen,” per KLPC. The victim was identified as 16 years old at the time of the crime.
Roberts’ daughter also took the stand during the criminal trial while her interview with investigators played for jurors, KLPC reported. In her interview, she told investigators that she saw her mother and the teenage boy “on top of each other” the night of the party, per the news outlet.
The jury also heard from a DoorDash delivery driver who said he delivered an emergency contraceptive to the Roberts’ residence, per KLPC. More text messages were shown in court that alleged the victim’s mother wanted to ensure Roberts was not pregnant, to which she responded that she was on birth control. A group text also was shown between Roberts and her friends suggesting that she take the emergency contraceptive known as Plan B.
It really is a whole family affair when it comes to testimony throughout Roberts’ trial, as her ex-husband, Duncan Clanton, took the stand and said his ex-wife “directly confessed to having sex with the teenage boy,” according to KLPC. Clanton also stated that he had spoken with his son and the teen confirmed what Roberts told him about what happened at the party.
Even though he was told what happened, it appears Clanton was trying to cover for his former wife as he told Roberts before attending a city council meeting after the party to “deny what happened if you’re approached by anyone at the meeting,” KLPC reported.
Someone from the teen friend group also testified that the victim “appeared drunk and tipsy the night of the party” to the point that he even “vomited,” per the news outlet. He also testified that Roberts was seen “flirting with the victim and dancing on him.”
As the trial and testimonies continue, it’s likely that even more disgusting behaviors from that night will be revealed. We hope the teenager involved has been surrounded by loved ones throughout this difficult time and is getting some help.
