Why is it that our kids are wide awake when we are most exhausted? This is particularly true for babies and toddlers. They care little about our need for rest, and when they’re raring to start the day, we’d better be ready to move too. Melissa Zaborowski knows all about this. Her daughter, Liana Mae, decided to get up early one day, and Zaborowski thought she could just lie down with her and they’d fall back asleep. Her plan only half worked. Mom went down, but Liana Mae got to work.
Zaborowski shared a hilarious video from inside Liana Mae’s bedroom on her TikTok, @melissazabo. In the video, she is snoozing while her daughter starts the day without her. It’s a viral moment that so many moms can relate to.

Liana Mae woke up two hours ahead of schedule.
Zaborowski told Newsweek that she thought they could get a bit more rest if she nursed Liana Mae for a while. The tired mom fell back asleep, but Liana Mae didn’t. “I thought she had too. Clearly, I was wrong,” the mom said.
Instead, Liana Mae, clad in a sleep sack, began to toddle around the room. She filled her bed up with toys, effectively covering her mother, who didn’t seem to notice.

She told Newsweek that Liana Mae played for about 30 minutes and covered her with toys in her bed. “I think as moms we’re never fully asleep when we’re in our children’s environment, so I could sense stuff around me. What woke me up was her touching my leg,” she said.
As the mom tried to figure out what was going on, Liana Mae tossed a shoe at her. She wrote on her TikTok, “I probably deserved to get hit tbh.”
The hilarious video resonated with so many people.
There’s no tired like mom tired, and plenty of parents understand Zaborowski’s plight. One parent has been there and wrote, “Falling asleep on your toddler and then waking up confused at what you see is so real ..”
So has this one who commented, “Girl, where did you get this video of me and my toddler?”
Zaborowski’s reaction seems pretty common. “The panic when you wake up and realize you fell asleep while the toddler is doing god knows what,” another person commented.

Lots of people came through with jokes.
Many understood that Liana Mae had no time to waste waiting for her mother to get up. Like this person who wrote, “She knew Mommy needed to sleep, but she had work to do.”
And this one: “She’s like, ‘It’s hard raising parents nowadays.'”
Just watching Liana Mae walking in a sleep sack was enough to make many giggle. “The way she is moving around in her sleep sack has me dying laughing,” another person commented.
