3 Family Members Including a Child Were Hit by Amtrak Train & Killed While Walking on Tracks

Three family members died in a horrific accident involving an Amtrak train in Pennsylvania on April 3, 2025. Prior to the crash, witnesses contacted police to report people walking on the railroad tracks around 6 p.m. An officer from the Bristol Borough Police Department arrived at the scene and was reportedly walking toward the victims when the Amtrak train struck them about 6:10 p.m. Officials told Fox News Digital the victims apparently heard the train but could not get off the tracks in time.

At the time of the accident, 236 people were onboard the train, traveling from Boston to Richmond, Virginia, Fox News Digital reported. The crash caused a major disruption in the rail system.

Bristol Borough Police Chief Joe Moors said during a news conference that emergency responders from several units came to help with the horrific scene. Moors said the accident remained under investigation, and he was unclear how long the disruption in rail travel would be.

Moors said he could not release many details and that Amtrak Police also would be investigating the accident.

Amtrak passenger Shauna Hailey recalled the frightening scene to PHIL 17. “All of a sudden the train came to a staggering stop and we knew something was wrong,” Hailey said. “I think everybody on the train was just in shock that this actually happened. You hear about these things happening, but you don’t really expect to be on the train when it happens.”

According to an Amtrak travel advisory obtained by the New York Post, the company promised to keep the public up to date.  “We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide an update as details become available,” Amtrak wrote. “We appreciate your patience.”

Fox 29’s Steve Keeley shared on X, “Sources tell me ‘all from same family.’ Sources say ‘preliminary information is a juvenile male was on tracks & his father & brother went on tracks in an attempt to save him & get him off the tracks. All three were hit.'”

One person wondered how the accident happened and commented on Keeley’s post, writing, “This is just awful. What the h— were they doing on the tracks in the first place? Condolences to all those affected.”

Others offered prayers. “Just horrific! God bless them all and their families!” someone wrote. “Cannot even imagine what they are going through!”

The accident remains under investigation.
