We will never understand how a person could intentionally kill someone else. The thought of ending someone else’s life over something as simple as a disagreement or grievance just doesn’t compute. Those feelings are greatly increased when it comes to children. Killing is wrong, but a child killing another child is next-level horror. When police in France found a young boy deceased, they suspected foul play. What they didn’t anticipate was his accused killers being other kids.
The boy reportedly had a towel around his neck.
Ouest-France reported that a fisherman found an 11-year-old who appeared to be dead on May 24, 2026. The fisherman reportedly heard the screams of a child on the banks of the Vilaine River in the city of Rennes, according to Agence France-Presse, Le Monde reported. The child reportedly had a wet towel tied tightly around his neck. Emergency crews arrived around 5 p.m. and desperately attempted to revive the boy. Sadly, he could not be revived.
The child apparently died in a wooded area.
The 11-year-old’s death occurred a short walk from the upscale neighborhood Place du Parlement-de-Bretagne. Police ultimately found the child’s body in a wooded area near several apartment buildings. His killers allegedly left his body hidden in a bush. The boy’s mother, who’d been looking for her son, arrived on the scene first, per Ouest-France. His father arrived with emergency crews shortly afterward.
Police arrested two teenagers in connection with the boy’s death.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, but police reportedly have a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl in custody for suspicion of “murder of a minor.” Police reportedly found the boy at his home on May 25, and the teenage girl turned herself in to police later that day, Le Monde reported.
“These are the two young people who were seen together with the victim at the scene of the incident on the afternoon of the tragedy, who are now in police custody,” Rennes public prosecutor Frédéric Teille shared in a statement obtained by Le Monde.
The details remain limited.

It’s not clear how the teenagers knew the boy or why anyone would want to kill him. If his mother was truly out looking for him, he’d at least been missing for enough time that she became concerned. We don’t know who committed the physical act of killing the 11-year-old, but we do know that it appears he died a painful and frightening death.
We live in a world where there are cameras everywhere, and someone is always watching. Even if you think no one will ever know it was you, they will. There’s no way of knowing what exactly pushed these young people to allegedly kill, but was ruining their lives and taking the life of another person worth it?
