Florida Doctor Delivers Baby Nearly 30 Years After Delivering Both of Her Parents

It’s not every day that a parent can say their OB-GYN delivered them, their partner, and their baby. But that’s exactly what happened to a new mom in Florida. Recently, then-and-now photos of her doctor holding her as a newborn and then her own baby nearly 30 years later went viral online.

Three decades is a long time to work at the same place in any profession, but Dr. John White has been delivering babies in Daytona Beach, Florida, for at least that long. He helped welcome a woman named Ashley Thomas all the way back in 1995, and he recently assisted in ushering her newborn to the world.

The Florida mom shared a TikTok video with the doctor who delivered her, her husband, and their baby.

In August, Thomas posted a slideshow video via TikTok featuring two photos. The first snap showed White holding her as a newborn. “When the same Doctor who delivered you 29 years ago, delivers your baby. 🥹🫶🏻,” she wrote.

In the next slide, a present-day Thomas and White both smiled while holding Thomas’ baby girl. “Where’d All the Time Go?” by Dr. Dog fittingly played in the background.

Soon, Thomas' TikTok post went viral.

Thus far, Thomas’ slideshow boasts more than 25.9 million views and over 5.8 million likes. TikTok users also flocked to the comments to share their reactions to the unique situation.

One top-liked comment pointed something out: “Dr. White still had the joyful smile.”

Another TikTok user declared, “Dr. White is a legend,” while someone else wrote, “Stop this is so cute 🥹❤️ He looks like the sweetest person ever ❤️.”

When she got pregnant, Thomas knew immediately who her OB-GYN should be.

During an interview with People, Thomas shared that she grew up in Daytona Beach but moved away to a different city. She married and moved back home, and she knew immediately who she wanted to deliver her baby after learning she was pregnant. “He was obviously my mom’s doctor,” she told the magazine, “but was known to be one of the best in our area.”

On July 7, White delivered Thomas’ baby via emergency C-section seven weeks early due to preeclampsia. She told People, “So not only did the doctor who delivered me, deliver my baby, but he pretty much saved both of our lives.”

White has delivered many of Thomas' family members.

“He pretty much delivered all of Daytona Beach,” Thomas told People. “When people hear his name, they know exactly who he is because he truly is the best and cares deeply for his patients and babies.”

In addition to Thomas, her husband, and their baby girl, White delivered her siblings and her husband’s siblings.

Later this month, the OB-GYN will retire.

Of how the viral then-and-now post came to be, Thomas explained that her mother sent a photo of her as a newborn with the doctor during one of her first pregnancy appointments. “I showed him that picture and he said, ‘We must get one together with YOUR baby girl’ and we did exactly that — 29 years later.”

Thomas shared that White will retire from medicine this month.

She told People, “As sad I am to see that chapter close, I couldn’t think of a more deserving doctor to enjoy retirement. His hard work has paid off.”
