8-Year-Old Girl Calls 911 From Back Seat After Her Dad Allegedly Fell Asleep Driving Drunk

A Florida dad apparently took his Father's Day celebration too far, becoming intoxicated and getting behind the wheel of a car. Sadly, Albert Coronado, 36, had his 8-year-old daughter with him at the time, and she apparently became frightened by her father's alleged drunken behavior and called 911 for help. When Cape Coral police officers arrived, it was a heartbreaking scene.

Cape Coral police posted video of Coronado's June 16 arrest on social media, and it is sobering. He appears confused as he is cuffed and taken away by police. Officers comforted the little girl by giving her teddy bears, ultimately reuniting her with her family. Coronado was arrested and charged with two counts of driving under the influence.

The child called the police late in the evening.

The young girl called 911 around 11 p.m. on Father's Day and said she was in her father's car and that he had been drinking, per a news release from Cape Coral Police Department.

She reportedly told police the man had parked the car and fallen asleep inside. Officers responded to the call and arrived at a location in the 1900 block of Southwest 32nd Street a short time later.

Officers found the man asleep in the car.

According to the news release, when officers arrived, the child was crying in the back seat of the car and Coronado was sleeping in the front seat. Officers woke the man, and he allegedly asked the little girl if she called the police, and she told him "yes." She reportedly confirmed to the man that she had told police her father had been drinking before the call.

Coronado allegedly showed signs of impairment.

Police officers could reportedly tell that Coronado had been drinking while questioning him at the scene.

"Officers noticed indicators of impairment, including glassy and bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, an odor of alcohol on his breath, and difficulty balancing," the news release reads.

In the video, it appears Coronado is having a hard time standing up and admits with a quick nod of his head to officers that he'd been drinking.

Police officers took care of the little girl during her father's arrest.

They comforted her as they worked to arrest her father and to reunite her with her family. They gave her two teddy bears and safely released her to family members a short time later.

Her father was charged with one count of DUI with breath alcohol over 0.08 and one count of DUI with a minor in the vehicle. According to online records, he was released June 17 on a $2,500 bond and is due back in court July 1.
