Have you ever tried to play a practical joke on your significant other and had things go completely off course to the point where it wasn’t even funny anymore? Maybe you hid their keys in the fridge and it started a heated argument or you added hot sauce to their coffee only to watch them get violently ill. Sometimes the very idea of a joke is as far as things should go.
This may very well be the case for a woman in India who was attempting a viral social media stunt by putting over 3,000 lipstick marks on her boyfriend’s vehicle. After spending hours on the prank, authorities in the area spotted his vehicle, which resulted in the boyfriend experiencing some legal ramifications that likely could have been avoided.
This social media prank had some potential until things took a turn.
If there’s one thing to note, it’s that there are lots of people out there — young, old, and in between — who are willing to go that extra mile to create a video on social media that could go viral.
Such was the case with Aditya Sikarwar from India who got his girlfriend to cover his vehicle with approximately 3,400 lipstick kiss marks. It took her nearly four hours and she had to use lipstick and some other materials, but she got the job done.
It may seem a little unorthodox or even just plain silly to some, but according to the post on the Indianbreakdown Instagram page, his plan worked and the video garnered thousands of views on social media.
Unfortunately for Sikarwar, the viral video also reached the police, which resulted in a mess of unexpected consequences!
It’s too bad that the police noticed some things and his vehicle was immediately flagged.
Sometimes it doesn’t pay to have your social media video go viral, and Sikarwar’s situation works to prove just that!
Apparently, the viral video was also watched by Gwalior Traffic Police in India, who noted the car’s registration number. The authorities used this information to identify and trace the vehicle’s location, and bring it into the traffic police station in the area.
While the car was there, the police said that due to all the lipstick kiss marks on the vehicle that drastically changed its overall appearance, there was a violation in terms of motor vehicle regulations. Also, a fine was issued for driving the car on city roads for a viral stunt.
While at the police station, Sikarwar was also made to hand wash his vehicle and remove all the lipstick kiss marks himself. Kind of brutal, but it sounds like the police were hoping to make an example out of him and hopefully deter others from doing this sort of thing for social media.
The content creator admits to making a dumb mistake.
According to BoredPanda.com, Sikarwar had no clue that the viral prank was actually considered illegal in terms of traffic and motor vehicle regulations. “Since I wasn’t aware that doing so was illegal, after the police action, I cleaned the entire car body to remove the lipstick marks and paid a fine… One should never do anything that violates the law,” he said.
The entertainment outlet looked at Section 52 of India’s Motor Vehicles Act, which is the section that deals with making modifications to your vehicles. It states “No owner of a motor vehicle shall so alter the vehicle that the particulars contained in the certificate of registration are at variance with those originally specified by the manufacturer…,” per BoredPanda.com.
In this Reddit thread, there was speculation about how the India police came to the decision of fining Sikarwar when they really could have given him a slap on the wrist. One person said, “Jealous policeman 🚨.” Another individual in the thread shared their thoughts. They wrote, “I think this was a petty reason. It’s temporary and harmless. It’s the same as decorating a car with balloons or flowers n s—… It’s just police ego. Cop was probably jealous lol.”
