Any time a person enters an operating room, there are risks associated with surgery. Often, those benefits far outweigh the risk, and it feels like a no-brainer to proceed with surgery. Sometimes, surgery is the only way to improve, or even save, a person’s life. In other cases, like cosmetic procedures, the surgery is elective, and that person will be just fine without it. Cosmetic and plastic surgery is big business, and millions of people save their money for years in the hopes of attaining their dream body or face.
Brazilian mom and influencer Derleya Alves, 26, couldn’t wait for her breast augmentation surgery and posted photos of her mother caring for her after leaving the hospital. A week later, Alves died from complications, shocking family and followers.
The Daily Mail reported Alves went in for a breast augmentation surgery on February 20, 2026. She shared a video on Instagram of the process and post-op time with her mom. Everything seemed fine, but according to the news outlet, she began to have severe abdominal pain after her surgery. As the pain intensified, doctors knew they had to act quickly to find the source.
Physicians performed two surgeries following the breast augmentation and reportedly repaired her intestines and removed one of her ovaries, per the Daily Mail. It appears she had a congenital abnormality that likely contributed to her poor health following the surgery. Doctors did their best, but tragically, she died at Marabá Municipal Hospital in Marabá on February 28.
Seeing the video of Alves after learning of her death broke many people’s hearts.
“Oh my God, her mother taking care of her with so much affection and love, may God comfort your heart, mommy in this moment of pain,” someone shared on Instagram.
“The video popping up to me after her death note,” another person commented on the post.
Followers hope Alves will find peace after death. “Rest in the arms of your father, you were a warrior,” one comment reads.
Per the Daily Mail, Alves’ death remains under investigation, but police do not expect foul play or a doctor’s error. Alves leaves behind a young son who will undoubtedly miss his mother terribly. Our thoughts are certainly with them. Life is so fragile and can change in a matter of moments. You just never know.
