True crime is incredibly popular, with people all over the world listening to true crime podcasts, watching true crime movies and television shows, and reading true crime books. Within the genre, there are different types of stories, from serial killer profiles, to courtroom dramas, to unsolved mysteries, to ongoing investigations. There are a number of infamous cases most true crime lovers are familiar with, like the Amanda Knox case, the Zodiac killer, the Unabomber, the JonBenet Ramsey mystery, the Jonestown Massacre, and more. And for as many well-known true crime stories we’ve heard of, there are even more cases that fly under the radar.

In a Reddit true crime forum, one person asked, “What is a little known true crime case you think needs more attention, or what is a case that has stuck with you that you think others should know about?” Here are some of the responses:

The Candyman Murders

The candyman murderers in Houston is a case that still traumatizes me. I made a mistake and began reading the details of what he did to those boys, and the cops not listening to the moms who reported their kids missing. Many of them getting dismissed. Many of his victims were young kids, which I think is what keeps me thinking about them and what they went through. It’s been 2 years since reading about this case and I still find myself thinking about it.

I feel like the families didn’t get justice and because he was killed, not many know about him, like some of these other serial killers. If the police at the time would’ve listen, a lot of those boys would’ve been spared. (In my opinion)

Recently one of his accomplices was seeking paroles (correct me if I’m wrong.)

The Death of Molly Young

Molly Young – Carbondale, IL.

Small town police corruption that runs so deep nobody really knows just how far it goes.

Initially ruled suicide, later undetermined. The boyfriend was a police dispatcher with family deep in law enforcement. His gun was the murder weapon, he was allowed to wash up and change clothes before police arrived and states he was a few feet away asleep but the gunshot didn’t wake him.

There’s so much more to the case but anyone interested can visit r/JusticeForMolly There is an excellent breakdown of the proof this man got away with murder…and there is so, so much. I’m sure I’m leaving out vital information.

Molly was a beautiful, young, talented college student and her death was an absolute tragedy on so many levels. Small town corrupt politicians and law enforcement is nothing new by any means but this is a case I’ll never forget.

Also, the same corrupt leo’s are tied to other cases. This wasn’t a one time thing. And they just keep getting swept under the rug…

Morgan Patten’s Applebee’s Kidnapping

Morgan Patten , “the Applebee’s to fatal car crash” story. She was abducted by 2 guys in the army from an Applebee’s and murdered during her kidnapping and assault . it’s been poorly covered in past podcasts and recently covered by Kendall Rae to include new evidence that clearly indicates she didn’t leave willingly and actually does some justice to her story and how it’s told. The suspects are in the army and this occurred in a small military base town in NC. She deserves justice.

The Disappearance of Cara Marie Cox

I’ve been thinking about Cara Marie Cox (sometimes listed as Cara Caudill Cox). She went with her boyfriend, a man named Adam, on his route as a truck driver from Oklahoma to California in May of 2022. He returned, with her belongings and without her. He helped her family look for her in Oklahoma for 3 days before admitting he left her during their trip.

His first version of events was that they had an argument, so he left her at Twin Arrows Casino, outside of Flagstaff, AZ. Later, he told the family she went into a bathroom at a truck stop in Essex, CA, and didn’t come out, so he left.

A phone ping places Cara 15 miles away from the Essex stop, in the Mojave desert. Curiously, there is a gap of at least 40 min in his records when he was around the Essex area.

Very little reporting or available info on this one, but listening to her sister speak about Cara breaks my heart, and I hope they can get answers one day.
