She might have been found guilty of murder in the case of the intentional car crash involving herself, her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and their friend, Davion Flanagan, but apparently, Mackenzie Shirilla isn’t letting something like a pesky murder conviction dull her shine. In newly released photos from prison that were shared on TikTok, Shirilla looks like she has had her eyebrows done, makeup applied to an almost polished degree, and hair styled in a way that you might only see outside of prison and not on someone spending decades behind bars.
Understandably, people are a bit miffed at the apparent freedom Shirilla has despite her double murder conviction. She was found guilty in 2023 of four counts of murder and felonious assault and two counts of aggravated vehicular assault, according to WKYC News in Cleveland, Ohio, near where the crash occurred in Strongsville, Ohio. Shirilla was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years.

In the TikTok, the user shows a photo of Shirilla in prison, and the background proves that the photo is recent, as she is surrounded by cinder block walls. Shirilla’s lips look plump in a pout, her eyebrows look like they were sculpted by a professional, and her lashes are long as though there are eyelash extensions or, at the very least, some high-end mascara brushed onto them.
Shirilla’s hair is also a far cry from what you might expect from someone in prison. It looks like Shirilla has a blow-out, and she even has some edges near the top of her forehead.
“Does Mackenzie Shirilla have a filter on this photo?” The TikTok user says in her video with the photo of Shirilla. “If not, wow. The prisons are providing the ladies with some makeup in there. I mean, I know Mackenzie Shirilla obviously has all the time in the world to perfect her makeup in prison and work on her face, but yeah. This is a photo that was uploaded to Mackenzie Shirilla’s IG account. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the background of the photo, you would think Mackenzie Shirilla is in the real world and just taking a regular selfie after doing her makeup. Mackenzie Shirilla appears to be thriving in prison. She’s going to be in there for a while.”
Someone commented on the post to claim that it’s a TikTok filter and nothing more. However, someone else responded that Shirilla is “clearly wearing makeup.”
Mackenzie Shirilla is still posting on Instagram.
Before the TikTok was shared, Shirilla did post that same photo on Instagram. She also shared a selfie with similar hair and makeup and a caption to thank her supporters. The bio on the account says that it is now managed by Shirilla’s “support team.” However, the quote under one of her prison glam selfies shows that Shirilla is definitely part of the account from behind bars.
“Thank you to those who see through the lies, and to those who take time out of their day to form their own opinion as to the truth of what actually happened,” she said, per the caption. “I’m not perfect…I never will be. But I am NOT guilty of murder. Like any young couple, Dom and I had our disagreements and arguments. However, I always loved Dom and would never do anything to hurt him, Davion, or anyone else I care about. I will respectfully and peacefully continue to fight for my innocence through the proper legal channels.”
She is still trying to appeal her case.
According to Cleveland’s 19 News, Shirilla did attempt to appeal her case and conviction. The Ohio Supreme Court stated “that the trial court correctly determined it was without jurisdiction to consider the petition.” Shirilla’s legal team reportedly missed the appeal date in 2024 by one day because of the leap year.
Her team filed another appeal in April 2026. As of now, Shirilla’s case and conviction remain unchanged. She will be eligible for parole in 2037.
